Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lasko 754200 Ceramic Heater with Adjustable ThermostatCustomer Review: Okay, but keep it away from moisture Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this heater about a year ago to heat my tiny (7'x5') drafty bathroom because it gets absolutely freezing in the winter. The heater did its job... for a while. I'd say it lasted maybe 6 months before entirely falling apart on me. After a few months of daily use, the knobs started to fall apart. I don't know if I was turning them too hard (is that possible?) or what, but one fell off entirely and I had to tape the cracked plastic underside of the on/off dial back together in order to turn the heater on and off.
The other problem I had with this heater was the fact that the fan inside completely broke. Luckily for me, it waited until spring to burn out, but now it doesn't turn on at all--just makes noise and gives off a burning smell. I'm willing to admit that this is because I used it regularly in a humid bathroom (which the instructions specifically say not to do), so keep that in mind if you're buying for use in a similarly humid environment. The dials breaking, however, I have no excuse for. Plastic buttons shouldn't just break and fall off the way these did, though I suppose I got what I paid for.
If you're buying this to use under a desk or near your bed, you're probably fine, but be gentle with the dials and keep it out of the bathroom!
Customer Review: Once I took it home... I missed it at work. Summary: 3 Stars
I really need something that will keep me warm at work. I work a late shift and the office normally empties out three to four hours before I leave. Without the extra people here there small call center cools quickly. I got this to keep my legs warm, and it would do the job, if it was consistently on.
This lil guy will turn on, and go for a few minutes as it feels like an open campfire 2 inches from your legs, than quickly turn itself back off as soon as you start to warm up. Then you have to adjust it to turn the heat on a higher setting, so your heater will turn back on and continue to provide you with legs that feel almost burned. When you can't tolerate the high heat anymore, as soon as you turn it down then it immediately turns itself onto its sleep like status where its no longer heating.
I took this heater home, and started using it in my office. We would keep the door shut and it would keep the entire room at a cozy setting. It worked so well I bought another one for my bedroom to keep it warm through out the night, as well as *sigh* I bought one for my office again. I've tried setting it further back and its alright when its not up on you, and I'm wearing thicker socks now so I'm not as cold as before so I use it just a bit less.
Customer Review: Great for college, small rooms, small areas Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this heater for a Minnesota winter, to supplement whatever central heat my building has. I'm from Texas, and I get cold even when most Minnesotans are in shorts and tshirts! This heater is absolutely wonderful. It heats dorm rooms quickly (30min-1hour) and it will heat a small bedroom quickly too (1-2hours). I didn't personally find it to be loud -- I think it is extremely quiet actually! The two heat settings are great. I usually just leave it on the hotter setting, but both heat things up well. The reason I put "great for small areas" is because I currently live in a 500sq ft room, and while this small heater won't heat this space very efficiently, it does heat up small areas really well! I keep this heater near my desk and it heats up my whole desk area. I notice a difference when I leave my desk, but it does a great job localizing the heat. It is not distracting at all, like I said, I keep it a few feet away from me and I can barely hear it.
I have had this heater for 4 winters now, and it is still putting out some great heat. It has survived three moves and still works well. The cord is nice and long, and it is very portable with a handle in the back. I highly recommend this heater, it's a great value for a great price!
Customer Review: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Summary: 2 Stars
We purchased this heater to take the chill of our living room. In the beginning, it worked great. We have a 2 story house and all the heat (central) used to escape upstairs but this small heater was able to maintain an even temperature in the room and thus giving the gas central heat a break. We used it IN CONJUNCTION with our central heat. This is not an item that can heat anything other than a small area.
We did not run it all day, only a few hours in the evening when we'd watch TV downstairs.
What do you know... one month and a half later, it stopped working. When we plugged it it,it started rattling like it was on its death bed then a smell of something burning came up (not actual smoke though) so we immediately unplugged it. Waited about 15 min and started again, thinking that perhaps just something had gotten loose for a moment. It didn't work plus that's when we noticed the fan was not running anymore.
Because it died 15 days AFTER the 30 day return policy from Amazon, we are left with this dead carcass of a heater. We don't know what you're supposed to do with if returning is no longer available.
Overall, it did its job WHILE it lived... a mere 43 days... YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, I GUESS...
Customer Review: Great little heater! Summary: 5 Stars
I am cold-natured, and always need a space heater around. I keep my house thermostat lower, to save on heating costs, and supplement with the use of space heaters. I used to use the oil-filled radiator kind, but then tried this little ceramic heater. Wise choice! This heater worked even better than my larger oil-filled models. I mostly use it in the bedrooms at night, and the thermostat ensures I don't get too warm in my sleep. However, it's plenty warm for a 150-square foot room. It is so light and portable, I carry it into my bathroom in the morning, too. Finally, I can use it to supplement my central heating in my living room. I have vaulted ceilings, so obviously this little heater will not heat the whole room by itself. But it will heat the area in which I sit and watch TV or read just fine. I bought a second unit when they went back on sale and am preparing to buy a third one. I can get three terrific units for the price of my oil-filled radiator electric heater, and heat three rooms more efficiently than before! If your unit does not work as great as mine, it is so easy to return it for a replacement....why not do that, instead of complaining about how the unit does not meet your satisfaction? Happy winters!
