Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lasko 754200 Ceramic Heater with Adjustable Thermostat

Customer Review: Does what it is meant to do
Summary: 5 Stars

At first, after not having looked at the size specifications before ordering, I laughed. It is a small unit. But it is remarkably good at what it does. It is VERY quiet, and packs a large wave of heat within a few seconds after turning it on. I bought it for use in my basement but I have found that I have challenged it's output probably more than most. I have an unheated garage and was having some car trouble; only problem was that the car was covered in ice. I put this in my two car garage in twenty degree temps in an uninsulated garage and within an hour snow and ice was melting off. It was still cold, but it was above freezing.

If you are planning on using it in an area larger than recommended, It will provide a small pocket of warm air not unlike sitting next to a small fire as one user put it. I use a hookah with friends every once and a while and this kicked out enough heat in 30 degree temps to keep three of us comfortable (with jackets on still).

Do not have an unreasonable expectation that this will solve large room heating problems, but what you are getting is a very versatile little heater that packs a punch. I am satisfied with my purchase and have considered getting a second.

Customer Review: Powerful Compact Heater
Summary: 5 Stars

What I was looking for: An affordable, energy efficient, small heater to keep me warm as I worked at my desk.
What I found:
Size:
For the size of this heater, it certainly puts out quite a bit of heat. There are two settings for wattage use which makes energy efficiency easy to determine. There is also a dial(thermostat) which allows you to select how high you would like your heat. I always leave the dial on the highest setting.
Heat Output:
If I am in a room with high ceilings, the heater really only works well enough if it is at my side and blowing fairly directly toward me. When I use the heater in my bedroom with standard ceiling height, it warms up the entire room very well. Turning a ceiling fan on low helps circulate the heat around the room.
Affordability:
You can't beat the price!
Other notes:
The heater does seem to put off a plastic-like scent. I have been using the heater for 3 months (though certainly not daily)and it has not stopped putting out this scent, though I feel it is dissipating a bit.
Though I have not had any trouble with shortages or hot cords, I always unplug when I am not using (as the directions clearly state to do).

Customer Review: Wouldn't turn off!
Summary: 1 Stars

We bought a new lasko to replace an older unit (exact same model) because the old one was getting noisy on startup. We decided on the same model since the old one worked well, it's a very affordable solution to keep a small room warm. We placed the new unit in my daughter's room using the exact same settings as the old one - low fan setting, tempt dial on 3rd notch. Came early morning, my daughter was up and crying. We went into the room and the heater seems to have been on forever, because the room was steaming HOT! My daughter was flushed and sweaty! The old unit was never on for more than 10 min at a time overnight, but this new one is obviously faulty and would not shut off when it's supposed to. I ran another test later, setting the tempt dial on 2nd notch, turned on the heater on low setting. 10 min later I returned to the room, it was getting hot and the heater just kept on running. I cannot trust this brand anymore because I cannot help but think of what could've happened as this unit is not safe to use. It could've caused a fire, or our daughter could've passed out from the excessive heat. I don't recommend this product to anyone, especially if you plan on using this in a child's room.

Customer Review: Died after 6 weeks; Lasko customer service is difficult
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased the heater in December to keep my cubicle warm. I ran it 4-5 hours per day for less than 6 weeks before it started to make a clicking sound while the fan was running. I turned the unit off, unplugged it, inspected visually and found no problem. I plugged it back in and the fan won't move at all.

I contacted the manufacturer (Lasko Products) as instructed in the warranty information. It took 3 emails before Lasko acknowledged the warranty; first they told me the product isn't made for personal repairs, then said it isn't available to be serviced, and finally offered to talk to me about the warranty via phone. The customer service rep was pleasant and requested I send my unit to receive a new heater under the provisions of the warranty.

I'm disappointed that the heater died so quickly and hope the new one will outlast it. Some might argue "you get what you pay for"; I didn't expect a state-of-the-art heater, but I definitely expected the heater to make it through the winter season.

* UPDATE * I received a new heater from Lasko within 10 days of returning my broken heater's power cord. Here's hoping this new heater lasts a bit longer.

Customer Review: Strange thermostat, otherwise good
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this heater because I didn't want to run the vent heating in the whole apartment when I spend hours working at my desk. As other reviewers have mentioned, it's quiet, compact, very inexpensive, and does what it has to, i.e. heats small spaces quickly. From my previous experience with this type of heaters I know that they turn off frequently if you use the second speed, so I only used the first one. During the first week it never turned off, but then it began to turn off at the first speed even if the temperature setting was low. After a long pause it can start working for a minute or two, then turn off again. At other times it works for 30-60 minutes and longer without turning off. I just don't see any regularity to this, and don't know whether it's due to some defect or it's just is the way it works. I have just found a sticker at the back of the heater saying that it's necessary to change the temperature setting to zero and unplug it whenever it turns off. Hope, this will help, but I wouldn't enjoy plugging it in and out every ten minutes. And, as other reviewers have mentioned, not having the on/off button is not very convenient.
