Customer Review: Disappointed
Summary: 2 Stars

I have been an electrician for 30 years. I installed 8 of these timers in my own house 5 years ago. Given that I installed them correctly they have worked wonderfully. I have never had one lockup on me. However, I have had 5 fail because the buttons broke off. They appear to rely on a set of very small plastic tabs that retain them against the spring tension. I have found that a tab will break off causing the button to hang crooked then eventually another tab will fail and the whole button will fall off. There is no way to repair short of total switch replacement as Leviton doesn't offer replacement buttons. The frequency of use certainly seems to be a factor as most of the failures are in the rooms most used. However, I think that they have a flawed design or material spec. problem. I recommend that you save your receipt for the warranty claim. Maybe they will get the message. I like the product just wish they would hold up better.

Customer Review: Great switch
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered 3 of these switches and installed them in an afternoon...I am not an electrician so if I can do this then I believe anyone can handle it.
I did run into a couple of problems that were not listed in the reviews that I read so I will touch on these problems:

1) metal flange: the switch will arrive with a metal flange on the left and right of the switch...this flange can be broken off with a pair of pliers. I had trouble fitting the switch into the wall receptacle until I broke off this flange, then the switch fit perfectly.

2)excess wiring: the switch is a lot deeper then the old switch that it replaced. I had a problem placing the excess wiring back into the wall receptacle, it would not fit behind the switch so I had to maneuver it to the side of the switch.

The switches work perfectly. My wife was totally amazed that I could handle this without hiring an electrician.

Customer Review: Leviton Timer switch review
Summary: 4 Stars

Having now fitted this timer switch, it works fine. I use it for a bathroom extractor fan
To be sure of being able to have room to fit the timer and all the wires I bought an extra deep receptacle box. It was pretty obvious that a regular receptacle box would have been too shallow. The timer has four wires and four wire nuts are included in the package. It can be a bit tricky getting the wire nuts to grip as the timer wires are multi-strand and I was using standard solid single wire household cable for the feed and supply to the fan. In the end I couldn't get the a wire nut to secure the ground wire connection so I soldered them and wrapped them in electrician's tape.
The timer offers times of 5, 10,15 and 30 minutes. There's an button to turn it off too; good if you want to just stop the fan there and then or select a different time delay.
In conclusion, I recommend this switch.

Customer Review: Made in China. Failed in two years. Replacement still running!
Summary: 3 Stars

Original review: My Leviton 6230M bathroom timer switch survived 2 years of moderate use -- once or twice a day -- before it failed to operate the fan. The LEDs still light up and count down, but there is no juice on the blue switched-output wire so I guess the timer circuit is okay but the relay is fried. Two years is not bad for a switch made in China, I suppose. At the moment I have installed a simple on/off switch while I search for a reliable replacement.

Update: After failing to find a viable alternative, I purchased two more of these timer switches (one as a spare). The one I installed has been running well for over 2 years now, and I have yet to use the spare. I have given it two more stars.

Note that there is now a newer replacement: http://www.amazon.com/Leviton-LTB30-1LZ-Countdown-Required-Assembled/dp/B002WTC91K/ref=dp_ob_title_hi

Customer Review: Great switch
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great little light switch. No problem installing (it has a green for ground, black for hot, and two whites for each neutral wire).

Cons:
- LED is a little dim, so it's hard to see without bending down right in front of it.
- The unit itself is pretty big, so it's a real tight fit in the old switch box, especially with all the wires in there. The wires coming from this switch are quite long, so you may want to shorten them to give yourself some more room.
- No "always on" button. I understand that'd defeat the purpose of the timer, so this isn't really a con, but sometimes that 30 minutes just isn't long enough :)

Overall I'd highly recommend it. Great way to save a bit of electricity and wear on the exhaust fan when we forget to turn it off.
