Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leviton 612-6260M-00W Decora 60-30-20-10 Preset Minute Electronic Timer, WhiteCustomer Review: Ease of installation is the key Summary: 5 Stars
Purchased this unit to provide timing control for a newly installed bathroom ceiling fan. The ease of operation is as advertised, the design fits right in with a modern look, but the installation effort is what I mostly am judging this device upon. It passed the test easily.
The directions are very straightforward, and even though as with most newer homes the wiring color codes can be different than noted in the provided instructions, the pictorial views made the connection of the wiring very easy. We were pleased enough that we ordered two additional units subsequently for our other bath fans. As mentioned in another review, once you've done the install once (and the first switch took me 20 min), the next two took only 10 - 15 min or so each (mostly running back and forth to the switch box in the basement). All needed wire nuts were supplied as well as a wall plate (though we added this to a double box and used our own wood wall plates). Electrical tape to secure the wire nut connections (I'm a safety freak) were all that I needed to add to the installation process beyond the instructions.
Being installed for less than a month only time will confirm the workmanship and longevity of the units, but so far we're very pleased and would recommend these units especially for bathroom exhaust fans to remove unwanted moisture.
Customer Review: Works like a charm Summary: 4 Stars
I bought two Leviton 612-6260M timers and installed for exhaust fans in two different bathroom, its been working like a charm for two months.
The instructions are not easy to understand. These timers require that you have a ground and a neutral at the switch location. This is an important detail that you should investigate before you buy these switches. If you just have a switch leg in the box, i.e. the hot leg only which would be two blacks or a black and a white thats marked, then this timer will not work properly.
The only issue I see is for people that have shallow junction boxes, this switch is very large, that combined with all the wire nuts and you'll be lucky if you can install it at all with a shallow box. Overall, i am happy with this product and waiting for the price to drop to install in remaining bathrooms.
Customer Review: Verify that your existing setup has a neutral wire before ordering Summary: 1 Stars
A year ago I replaced a fan switch with one of those dial-timer switches which was very easy to install. I thought this switch looked a lot better and the quiet operation sounded great also so I purchased it. According to the manufacturer's website, most new house's electrical systems include a neutral wire configurations and since my house is one year old it did not occur to me check before ordering. My configuration only has a 3-wire setup and without the neutral wire, the timer won't work. One of my friend's is an electrician so I called him and he said that generally only timers for HVAC systems in residential building have a neutral wire setup. So before you order, verify that your existing setup has a neutral wire, because it probably does not.
Customer Review: Still going strong Summary: 4 Stars
Out of all the bathroom fan swith timers I have seen I still like this one the best. Simple installation, simple operation, does just what we need.
I bought four of them almost five years ago and they are all still working just fine. I came here today to order some more for my daughter's condo.
The only criticism I have is the size of the unit can make it a challenge to install if your switch box is jammed with anything else that will take up a lot of space (like a dimmer, for example).
I got really tired of coming home at the end of the day to find somebody had left a fan running all day long. This is a simple solution to the problem.
Customer Review: Great energy savings device for the master bathroom Summary: 5 Stars
I often find that my wife and I turn on the master bathroom fan and lihts, but we forget to come back and turn them off.
This timer is a perfect solution to both problems. It replaces a regular wall switch and gives you five buttons: 60 minutes, 30 minutes, 20, and 10 minutes, and off. After the appropriate period, the switch turns off automatically.
In an effort to save energy, I've replaced the light switches in all my bathrooms and in the garage with these.
The only downside is a very slight clicking noise when you turn the switch on or off, as the relay kicks in. The noise isn't annoying, but you should know about it before you buy.
