Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lock Jaw Security 1001 Door Security Device, Polished Brass

Customer Review: Works well, slightly flawed
Summary: 3 Stars

I sent an email directly to dydee at the company as per their website but never got a reply so...
The device works exceptionally well as long as the shuttle is either locked in the up position or
down with the fingers straddling each side of the thumb latch with you on the same side. :-)
I've used for over a year and a half with no problem. Until the one flaw of the device kicked in.

I had guests one weekend, and one of the childern loosened the shuttle while the thumb latch was horizontal, (open)
the fingers came to rest on the thumb latch. After they left, I went on a small errand and did't notice the
position of the shuttle. When I turned the key from the outside the shuttle road the thumb latch like a cam
until the thumb latch was vertical at which time the shuttle came down straddling the thumb latch and locking me out.
I had to have the lock drilled out to get back in.

I've thought of at least one way the lock jaw could be improved to prevent this from ever happening again...
A groove in the shuttle and a tab on the inside of the shell at the bottom of the groove with a two inch long expanded
spring in the groove. You'd compress the spring as you push the shuttle down over the thumb latch, and use the shuttle thumb screw
to lock it in place down. Making it spring loaded would ensure it could never lock you out if someone loosens the thumb screw.

Even with it's flaw, I still use it, because there isn't anything else I've found that works as well, as yet.

Customer Review: No Handyman Necessary...Really!
Summary: 5 Stars

My handyman has profited greatly by my hiring him to install home improvement products that claimed to be "do-it-yourself" and "easy to install." Being a single woman and homeowner, I am embarrassed to admit how often I have been misled. Yet, I was willing to try again. I wanted to research options for more secure locks for my doors. I found the Lock Jaw Security website and viewed the demonstration video. Through this video, I learned about Lock Bumping and why a dead bolt lock just isn't enough. Best of all, this demo video has clear, concise, step-by-step instructions to install this security device permanently or temporarily. My handyman will not be hearing from me this time!

Customer Review: Simple to install and use.
Summary: 4 Stars

I saw the lockjaw on TV while it was being shown at a expo. I searched for the product at local retailers but was only able to find it online but at a good price. The lockjaw does work well at keeping the lock in place.
I was disappointed by the cheap screws that came with the lockjaw to mount on the door. I had one break and others strip when being screwed into the door and had to move the lockjaw over a bit to get a new spot for one my own tougher screws. I recommend using better screws to mount or heavy duty mounting tape.

Customer Review: DORM ROOM SECURITY...PLUS!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Why'll shopping Amazon online for my daughter's first year of college...I also wanted to find a product that could possibly add additional security to their dorm room. Something that was not permanent and yet could easily be removed without causing any sort of damage to the door. I came across the Lock Jaw, which in fact is portable! We simply attached with double-sided stick tape right above the deadbolt. Extremely secure and impossible to enter with any unauthorized key! Highly recommend!

Customer Review: R U Sure about this?
Summary: 3 Stars

This product gives a false sense of security. Most burglars use a simple screwdriver or small pry bar to spread your door frame. If that doesn't work, they kick the door in. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. The weakest link is not your lock, it's the door and door frame. If they are weak, it doesn't matter how much money you spend on a lock or silly device like this.

Hope this helps. :-)
