Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lux Products BBHP2110 Smart Temp Programmable Heat Pump ThermostatCustomer Review: Good deal for the money, BUT... Summary: 5 Stars
This is a good thermostat with decent instructions. Only downside is that it is totally battery powered rather than powered off the 24V circuit (with battery backup) as my old thermostat was. However, I'd buy it again. BUT ---- After about 2 months of use, the light for the display started working intermittently. Now the problem...You can't "call" customer service and talk to someone, you have to leave a message and they call you back (seemingly when you aren't home). After following their suggestions (use the reset button), it still wasn't lighting up, and they offered their replacement procedure. It has a 3 year warranty, but they will do nothing to take care of it themselves. You have to return it to the retailer for exchange. Which means you have to unwire it and, in a mail order retailer's case, do without a thermostat for several days. Obviously, not an option. Amazon, however, was tremendously helpful and courteous. They shipped out a new thermostat by next day delivery and with a prepaid return label. I can't praise Amazon enough for doing this. It's just a shame that Lux has such a ridiculous return policy. Do they really think someone is going to unwire, and possibly hook up the old thermostat, so they can return it??
Customer Review: Solved my problem Summary: 5 Stars
I needed to replace an old Honeywell mercury type thermostat on my heat pump, and Honeywell no longer makes one like the old one. I looked at many different brands and models, and this one appeared to do everything I needed, plus the price was right. I found the instructions easy to follow and had the old one out and the new one installed in less than 15 minutes. If you want to change the default program the instructions are easy to follow, but I didn't bother because the default setting work fine for me. I liked it so well I ordered another one to replace the thermostat at the other end of my house. It is important to label the wires as you take them off the old thermostat, and they provide stickers that make this easy to do. Anybody that can read and follow simple directions should have no problem installing and programming this thermostat.
Customer Review: Lux is what Honeywell isn't Summary: 5 Stars
I've installed five Lux thermostats and three Honeywells.
Every Lux installed without a hitch and the oldest (11+ years) still works flawlessly. Nice: you can remove from wall and program sitting down.
I've installed three Honeywells and moved into one house that already had the $200+ 'Honeywell Best' installed. Pure junk. The only Honeywell thermostat I'd ever trust is the old-fashioned round manual one (2 speeds: ON or OFF). The programmable ones have the most arcane programming imaginable.
(An aside: when the big H moved into its new office building -Phoenix, AZ- it took them two years to sort out the HVAC ... while my girlfriend and the other employees alternately roasted or froze. 'nuff said.)
You can buy either one first ... but, either way, your 2nd one will be a Lux.
Customer Review: Saving Money Summary: 4 Stars
After a slow start I am up and running. As many of the other people in the reviews wrote the directions could use a little help, but after a little research and a call to my installer I found out the extra wire was to power the old themastat. This one has batteries and does not require power.
The thermostat works great! I think I already saved more than what the termostat cost on my last electric bill. Our great room is only used about 8 hours a day. Now we are able to cut the thermostat back to 60 when not in use and just before everyone gets home, it's back up to 70.
I read a lot of reveiws about not doing this with a heat pump, but my electric bill dropped over a hundred dollars last month. So you figure it out!
Customer Review: Wow... if I can do it, anyone can! Summary: 5 Stars
This was SO easy to install. I have no knowledge of electricity and was hoping I would be able to do this. It took about 15 minutes and the longest part of that was labeling the wires as I took them off my old thermostat (which they include stickers for labeling all the wires). When I turned the power back onto my heat pump I was really expecting it not to work as it was so easy to install, but it started right up. I am a single mom and I am learning to do this kind of stuff on my own and was absolutely thrilled to find out how easy this was to install. It seems to work great also, I had to reprogram it as the default settings didn't work for my schedule and that was also very, very easy!
