Unit is easy to install and program. The mounting holes matched the ones from my old thermostat so that part was easy. Programming was straight-forward and flexible if somewhat tedious; it would have been nice to have a "clone" feature to copy programming from one day or daytime segment from one part to another. Indicated temperature seems to be accurate; agrees with my "standard thermometer". One unexpected feature was an "Early Recovery" option. When selected (not the default setting) the thermostat anticipates when to turn on so as to reach the set temperature at the time programmed. When I wake up in the morning and find the house already warmed up to the preset temperature, I think of my father who used to get up in the morning in a cold house, and go down to the basement and kindle a fire in the furnace, adding coal to keep it going.Customer Review: Inport on wrong side

Unlike most other thermostats, the LUX 1500 places the port for the furnace wires to enter the thermostat on one side, thus making it impossible to use if the wires coming out of the wall are on the other side. There is no recess in the mounting plate to accommodate the wiring and the wall screw hole is located right over the hole that the wires come out of the wall. The user does not have other screw holes to use as alternatives to fasten the mounting plate to the wall.
Other thermostats have the entry port in the center and it is wide enough to accommodate the furnace wires no matter where they come out of the wall.
Also, the wire mounting screws for the different wires are too short so that they cannot be screwed out far enough to make inserting the furnace wires under the screws easy.

My husband and I are very pleased with our new thermostat. The Lux TX1500E is easy to program. It has multiple programs and a HOLD feature that allows you to override the current program and set the temperature to whatever you want it to be. For instance, it's Saturday morning and we are eating our breakfast, so using the hold feature, we set the temperature at 68. When we leave the house, we will release the hold so it can return to the previous programming. This flexibility combines convenience and efficiency. The screen is also very easy to read. I ordered the Lux thermostat with the light-up display, per the advice of a Lux representative (Lux promptly returned my voicemail and recommended Amazon.com), and I was impressed. I am so happy I upgraded from my original decision: to buy the cheapest digital thermostat I found. The screen is so easy to see on cold nights, and the battery power seems to be lasting a long time with standard alkaline; I haven't charged rechargeable AA's yet, since the Lux manual recommends standard alkaline (either Duracell or Energizer), but I'm not sure it's a forbidden idea. If you're looking for a good, inexpensive digital thermostat for your old 120V set-up, and if you're tired of only seeing Honeywell, and other pricey units at Wal-mart,Home Depot, or Lowes, order your Lux from Amazon.com right now!

Replaced an old mercury thermostat with one of these and I'm pleased with the results. Easy to install (took more time to disconnect the old one, than to install this one), easy to program. The one complaint I have is the delay before the unit comes on. I'm sure there is a good reason for it, but when its hot, I'd like to be able to turn the a/c on without waiting 2 minutes.
Update (1/19/11):
Turns out this thermostat wasn't compatible with my heating system, so I had to disconnect and put the old one back on. Unfortunately, I don't know what kind of heating system I have, so this portion probably isn't very helpful.
When it was hot, it was a great thermostat for me, but now it sits on a shelf in the closet. Maybe it will work in my next place.
