Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lux TX9000TS Touch Screen Seven-Day Programmable ThermostatCustomer Review: Almost 5 stars Summary: 4 Stars
This thermostat works great and looks great too. It has excellent programmable features and is very user friendly when it come to setting and programming it. (I really like the copy feature for duplicating settings on multiple days.) Once programmed you can pretty much just forget about ever setting your thermostat again. But, it is also easy to manually override your programs whenever needed. I really like the looks of this thermostat with the blue backlit screen. The touch screen works great. I really have no complaints at all about the thermostat and I am very happy with it. The reason for the four star rating is the instructions for wiring the thermostat are not that great. I think the instructions are fine for someone with experience with heating and AC systems. But for a first timer like me it took a little while to figure out the wiring. In fact, I had to search the internet to figure out the wiring of my old Honeywell thermostat I was replacing in order to match it up with this new one. Luckily I was able to find the wiring info I needed on the internet and was able to wire the new thermostat successfully. My suggestion for Lux is to include more detailed wiring information for those replacing the more common brands of thermostats to make hooking this up a little clearer. Other than that, I can't think of any thing else Lux could do to improve this thermostat.
Customer Review: Easy to install, lots of features Summary: 5 Stars
This was a very simple install for my house. It's more attractive on the wall than the one it replaced, and so far works quite well. It's only been about three weeks since I put it in so I can't say yet how much it helps with energy bills, but I'm sure I will see a difference if just because manually adjusting the temperature is something I would forget to do sometimes. I really like the blue backlight, but then blue is my favorite color.
So long as you read the instructions, setting the thermostat is not at all difficult although there are still some features I haven't yet messed with, like filter settings. You do have to watch and be sure you press "Yes" at the appropriate times. In that respect it doesn't really seem very intuitive, but I still managed to get it figured out in only a few minutes reading the instructions.
Each day has four "zones" to set. Even if you only want two different settings, like one for daytime and one for nighttime say on the weekends, you do have to set all four, or it will default to whatever settings it ships with. It has a very nice "copy" feature so if you want it set the same for several days, like weekdays when you're gone to work, you can set it up for Monday and just copy it for Tuesday through Friday. Overriding the program is very easy, and I really like the touch-screen operation.
Customer Review: Love This Thermostat Best Out There For Price Summary: 5 Stars
I got this thermostat for my new home that I moved into in March 2010. We got rid of the Honeywell MANUAL thermostat that came with the house ASAP. I wanted to get a thermostat that was programmable and also easy to use. My favorite addition to this thermostat is the (+-3) degree SWING VALUE. I love being able to limit the use of the furnace. Rather than the furnace kicking on every 5-10 minutes when it is 20-30 degrees out I am able to stretch it to about 20 minutes for each cycle. I know that is saving me NATURAL GAS and also Electricity (by the furnace not kicking on). Also like the programmability. I was doing all the temperature settings manually ... Come home and turn on. Turn down when going to bed. Now I programmed it and do not even have to worry about it. I read about every review on this site and some people stated that it was hard to program. If you hit the "DAY" in the programming you will skip day to day and do not have to go though EACH and EVERY DAY setting to get to one another. Just have to read the manual and it states all this out. I have also enabled the SMART SETTING so that was when I set it to 65 degrees at 6:00PM it will be 65 degrees at 6:00 pm. Not just that it will start heating to 65 degrees at that time. I love that part also. Consumer Reports does not steer you wrong! Love this thermostat!
Customer Review: It's great! Summary: 4 Stars
I really like this thermostat. I put one in my house and one in my church. My house is a 20 year old, 2300 sq ft split level house. We noticed almost immediately the house seemed comfortable all the time. Before, the house would get overly cold in some areas and overly warm in others. Now, we don't even notice temperature changes.
The church, by contrast, is a single story 100 year old building with a basement which is where the thermostat is installed. The building would always be cold Sunday morning and would require someone to come in about an hour early to warm it up, and then hope to remember to turn it back down for the week. Now, we walk into the building and it's comfortable and we don't have to remember to turn it back down. It also seems to hold the temperature more consistantly than the old mercury thermostat that was there.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the programming. It's a bit cumbersome to program. I consider myself a pretty techno-savy guy, and it took me awhile to get used to the programming method. Now that I've done it on both of them, I feel OK with it, but it's not intuitive. That being said, it would not be a deal breaker for me at all. It's worth a minor hassle for the great performance and features for the price.
I would (and have) recommend this one to others.
Customer Review: Great Thermostat Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great thermostat for the price. I have a new Amana gas forced air heat and central AC system with one zone. I know absolutely nothing about HVAC and it only took about 30min to take the old Honeywell non programmable thermostat off in install this. Just pay attention to where the wires were connected on the old thermostat before you remove them. Programming is pretty straight forward although it is a bit tedious to have to go through all the days and times one by one without being able to skip whole days or go back (if you pass the day and time you were looking for you have to go through the whole week to get back). All in all though, it does what it is supposed to do and has nice features. I like being able to set how many degrees the temp can fluctuate before the system kicks on thereby reduces cycling and stress on the system. The hold and override functions are nice (hold keeps the temp constant through all programming, override will switch back to the programmed temperature once it hits the next programmed time segment. Being able to switch from heating only to cooling only is a no brainer, but apparently some other thermostats don't allow this. The filter monitor is also a great function. It looks very nice too! Can't ask for more.
