Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lux TX9000TS Touch Screen Seven-Day Programmable ThermostatCustomer Review: Not happy! Summary: 1 Stars
I was just about to give this Lux thermostat a 5 star review. Just over a week ago I started having problems with the furnace, well I thought it was the furnace. After 10 days, in which I could have used heat at night I started doing some diagnostics and determined the thermostat was faulty. It doesn't make contact to turn the heat on, tried an old thermostat and furnace works fine. So this thermostat has a problem with its circuit board or a short in it. It just got cold enough this week that I finally turned it on. I got on Amazon to return it and missed the return date by 8 days. So long story short It was a loss of $67 plus shipping plus I got the wall plate specifically for it which I can't return either. I can't recommend this stat. Maybe I was just unlucky to get a faulty one. When I first installed it I tested it out on cool mode, and the a/c worked fine so assumed the heating mode would too or I would have been able to return it within Amazons time limit. I have not looked into if Lux has a warranty directly. When this worked I found it far superior to the junk honeywell thermostat. The old honeywell does work after 5 years but it is very slow to respond to temperature changes.
Customer Review: Works but not happy with it. Summary: 2 Stars
My system is a 4 wire electric heating and cooling system. It has a default jumper on the back for gas, slightly annoying. But once it was connected for the system it did do most of what it says. The temperature is easy to set for "override" but setting the time yourself (programmable) has not jumped out on how to do it. Yes I am sure it is in the manual, but something like this really should be pretty clear on screen how to set it up. But that aside and the reason I am not bothering to look into it is there are 2 major problems (at least for what I expect)
1. The system does not auto switch from Heat and Cool, the bottom left swtich when you open the panel has Cool-Off-Heat, seems to defeat some of the purpose behind a touch screen.
2. The box says it does power usage monitoring. I have tried scrolling through the options to find that and the closest thing I can find is the filter change that will let you know how many hours it ran. Not exactly what I would consider power usage monitoring.
I have seen other people with Honeywell and that is what I am getting next. The Honeywells look better and best I can tell, they are easier to work with.
Customer Review: Easy to set-up, easy to use Summary: 5 Stars
Product was received quickly and met expectations - which were high based on the other reviews. I found it to be important to label the wires that were on my old thermostat base since there were two sets of red and white wires in place of a standard four wire (red, white, yellow, green). I followed the instructions, but I'm an instruction person. The product was easy to install. It only took about 20 minutes from the time I started until the unit was installed and programmed.
It's physically larger than I expected, and comes with an optional large backing plate to cover up any unpainted areas, etc. The programmed temperature is easy to override for any given period. Simply touch the temperature on the screen, an up and down arrow appears to make and adjustment. This was easy to teach my family members and comes in handy when someone arrives home early from work or school. It reverts right back to the programmed settings at the next programmed time setting.
It did take us a few nights to adjust to the cooler night time temperatures, but now it's not even noticeable. Overall I say this unit is an excellent purchase.
Customer Review: LUX TX9000TS Thermostat Summary: 4 Stars
Purchased at Lowe's for ~ $67.00. Installed replacing existing minimal featured LUX thermostat.
Installation took about 20 minutes.
Pros:
*Great looking Thermostat and good for the visually challenged (older crowd).
*Relatively easy to program with instructions but not completely intuitive.
*Simple to install
*Backlight is useful at night when adjusting or programing.
*Much less expensive than the White-Rodgers thermostats that cost 2X but
have essentially the same features.
*Three year warranty (hold onto your instructions/receipt and packaging).
Cons:
*Tabs connecting the case could be more robust. Handle gingerly when changing batteries.
*Door at bottom to turn system heat/off/cool and adjust fan to on/auto is flimsy and does
not close completely - should have located switches on the side and eliminated potential
door issues.
*Non intuitive interface means you should take a few minutes to train other household
members in temp override and hold procedures.
Overall a good value in a quality product.
Customer Review: Works fine - installation literally a snap Summary: 5 Stars
Was very easy to install except that I had to go on-line to verify which terminals to connect in my VERY old house. It would be helpful if the instruction sheet would identify the terminals by function (actual descriptive words) as well as with the code letters (which do make sense once one understands what the functions are). But this overall was a very minor issue. The ability to physically separate the "computer" from the terminal board and literally snap them together once wires have been connected and the computer programmed is a major advantage. This makes the wire connections accessible without struggling and leads to a very quick and easy installation. A large auxiliary backing plate was included to cover any gaping holes in the wall from previous thermostats and I initially used this but ultimately decided installation looked neater without. The plate is simply trapped between the terminal board and the wall, so it's very easy to change one's mind on this without having to fill screw holes etc. Have used the thermostat now for several months and it has worked flawlessly and is very easy to program.
