Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lux TX9000TS Touch Screen Seven-Day Programmable Thermostat

Customer Review: Temperature Calibration
Summary: 2 Stars

The large Touch Screen helps one to navigate easily while programming, but does not prevent you from not having to read the programming instruction. The Temperature Calibration under Advanced Features caught my attention. I assumed the temperature reading on the Thermostat is the ambient temperature. The Thermostat and my indoor/outdoor Thermometer are mount adjacent to each other, and there is (over) a one degree temperature reading discrepancy between the two. I brought out my precision lab thermometer for comparison and its reading agreed with the I/O Thermometer (at an ambient room temperature of seventy degree).

The LUX Thermostat temperature reading is suppose to be calibrated at the factory at seventy degree (F). The manufacturer cannot rely on the customer to perform this calibration on the Thermostat thermometer. One degree offset can make a difference in ones heating/cooling bill. This product is unacceptable for the average nontechnical customer.

Customer Review: Not quality like Honeywell
Summary: 2 Stars

Purchased this on the basis of #1 ranking by a leading consumer magazine. It replaced a Honeywell. The Honeywell was working fine, but I just bought a new furnace and figured it was time for an upgrade. Well, after 3 weeks, I removed the Lux and re-installed the Honeywell. My problems are as follows: 1. Everytime the furnace activates or shuts off, the thermostat makes a loud clicking sound... very annoying. 2. The display temp and the programmed temp are not displayed simultaneously on the screen...very annoying. Also no resume program button if you want to cancel a temporary setting. 3. It was a real pain to program and then even more of a pain to review or change an existing program schedule. 4. The hold temp feature is not nearly as easy to figure out as Honeywell, especially for my mother and wife. Bottom line: I'm sticking with Honeywell from now on. Much easier to program and works like a charm for 10 years.

Customer Review: Very Good Programmable Thermostat
Summary: 4 Stars

This thermostat was very easy to install and program and is doing its job well. The other Amazon reviews were very helpful in alerting me so some of its small programming quirks.

My system is very simple: a forced-hot-water heating system with the thermostat controlling the circulator pump. I took off the old mechanical programmable thermostat, connected the two wires to this thermostat following the clear instructions in the manual, screwed the new thermostat in place, and programmed in the desired schedule. The whole process took less than an hour (including a thorough reading the manual).

My only complaint about this thermostat is that it does not have a vacation feature that allows one to set an override temperature for a specified period of time (for example, remain at 55 degrees for 13 days and 7 hours while I'm away on vacation or 60 degrees for 8 hours while I'm out for the day).

Customer Review: Too bad...
Summary: 2 Stars

There were so many good things about this unit. Unfortunately, there were a couple major defects that made me exchange it for a Honeywell. I loved the big screen and display, it was easy to install, the settings were very intuitive and it had a good price. However the actual temperature was off from my setting by as much as 14 degrees at times. It would never go below 64 degrees even when set at 50 degrees at night (35 degrees outside). While the house quite comfortable, this defeated the purpose of installing the energy saving device in the first place. I have a simple 4 wire system. I scrubbed though the manual for a solution and I had others come and check the installation and settings. I talked with their tech support and even exchanged the unit for another, but no success. I gave up and installed the Honeywell RTH7600 - it works like a charm. (BTW Amazon was great with the exchange and the refund).

Customer Review: Fantastic thermostat
Summary: 5 Stars

After moving into a new home, I was eager to remove the clunky old mercury-based Honeywell thermostats on which I could barely read the numbers and which, of course, lacked any sort of programmability. The key with these thermostats is that they are completely programmable with up to 4 times a day when you can change the temperature. Each day is separately programmable. You can can override the default program by setting the machine to "hold" the temperature constant. The thermostat is really easy to install and the blue backlight looks much better than the green one in many other models. Once you set up your program, your main interest will likely be in just checking the current temperature and/or time. This model has a nice, large button in the lower right for activating the backlight for several seconds. I have since replaced all my thermostats with this model and I'm extremely pleased with the results.
