Tools and Hardware Reviews of Lux WIN100 Heating & Cooling Programmable Outlet ThermostatCustomer Review: Excellent Product Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent product with a few limitations. 1) It requires a 3 prong plug to be inserted in the unit which is ridiculous as a lot of heaters do not have a ground plug. You can easily defeat this by putting some type of 3 prong plug in the unit such as a short 3 plug extension cord. 2) There are 4 time stages broken down between week days and week ends. It is really good that this has that capability in a sensitive switching thermostat that can handle the current draw of an electric heater.
The thermostat is sensitive and works exceptionally well. I am totally pleased with its performance. I am in a motor coach that has two means of heating. However, to minimize power consumption and maximize comfort, I use this control and a small electric heater. The thermostats on the heaters have them either running all the time or not running at all. This unit fixes that issue.
Customer Review: A blessing for comfort Summary: 5 Stars
This product is really a blessing. I have 2 space heater. Before buying this product I had both heaters on. The problem was that in the middle of night I woke up full of sweat, because there was not a way to stop one of the heaters when the room temprature became hot while I was asleep. After I purchased this product, I set the device to 73 f and connected one of the heaters to it . Now when both heaters are working when the room temprature reaches to 73 degrees F , the device shuts off the heater that is connected to it, and therfore the room temprature does not increase over the set temprature. This device pays for itself , since I do not pay for the electricity and heat that I do not need, and more important it keeps me healty, not waking in the middle of night from too much heat, so I can sleep with peace. I highly recommend this product.
Customer Review: More accurate than most a/c thermostats Summary: 5 Stars
Wish I'd had this little guy 5 years ago. It is currently hooked to a 10,000 BTU window unit. The window unit does have a thermostat but no energy saver mode so it constantly made noise. I set the thermostat well below this little guy's settings so it would kick on when power was returned to it. Been working quite well.
Just wish they made one that sensed humidity too!
Update 2/1/11 - Used this on both a 10,000btu and a 15,000. I was worried it wouldn't allow enough juice through to power the larger one but it does fine. It's performed amazingly well in a pretty hostile, dusty, and unintentionally humid environment. I've also been happy that it does reliably come on after power failures and surges - and has not been destroyed by a surge yet.
Customer Review: Thermostat helped keep my doghouses warm this cold winter Summary: 5 Stars
I have 2 dogs and 2 dog houses. Prior to this winter, only one of the dog houses had a heating mat as one dog is furrier and fatter and didn't really need extra warmth. However, the fat dog started switching dog houses and the skinny dog would be freezing in the non-heated house. We put mats in both houses but wanted a way so that they didn't have to stay on all the time but only when the weather was cold (also so we could avoid going outside twice a day to switch them on and off). I bought this thermostat and set it up to come on whenever the temperature dropped into the 40's. If it warmed up the next morning it would go off automatically. It solved my problem and my dogs stayed warm! I hope it keeps working for the next few years.
Customer Review: Beats the Zoo-Med Hygrotherm! Summary: 4 Stars
I made an extension for the sensor using pure copper LAN cable, LOW WATT iron, lead free solder, and 100MPH tape. I did not have to open it to access enough wire between unit and sensor to make the solder extension for the 2 wire sensor. The signal drops off after about 5 ft, but that was more than enough. I think it is actually more sensitive now and it keeps my temps well within range. You might get better signal with thermostat wire, but the low voltage around water is safer, so it's worth it to have a $40 remote thermostat for your duct fan. It is better if you program it within +/-10 degrees of where you want to be, because it's so accurate that it will turn on and off every 5 minutes if your fan works well.
