If your old thermostat was mounted in a standard outlet box, the ELV4 may not cover enough. This product solves that problem. If the ELV4 is already installed, this can be installed behind it by loosening the ELV4 mounting screws, removing one screw and twisting the plate over the thermostat body, and then reinstalling and tightening the mounting screws.
The plate is held in place by the thermostat -- it has no mounting hardware of its own. The plate is a color-match for the thermostat body, and is wide enough to cover up the damage left by a former horizontal-format thermostat. For two bucks and free shipping, it is a quick and easy solution to a cosmetic problem.
