This is one of the items I bought for my new apartment's kitchen. It's a great product. I never worry about pulling too hard and knocking it over because its weighted, nonslip base keeps it in place. If you have a spill, the last thing you want to do is waste time fumbling with a paper towel roll and this product allows you to frantically unroll a few sheets and tear it off with a downward pull--all with one hand. I recommend this attractive Paper Towel Holder.
Note: I gave it only four stars because it requires a bit of a learning curve because when I first started using it, I found it difficult to tear off a sheet of paper towel. As I pulled down, it only unraveled more sheets instead of tearing it. It requires some technique.

Although the towel rack arrived with the small post slightly bent, it didn't seem to effect operation, so I was going to keep it. First roll of paper towels goes on, I hear the "click-click-click" sound as I pull off the first paper towel, and it works perfectly. Pull a few more, one sheet at a time, perfect. Call my wife in, she pulls a couple off, perfect. That evening, getting ready to eat dinner, go to pull our first paper towel for actual use-- and I get no "clicks", plus it pulls off several sheets instead of just one. Play with it some, nope, the ratcheting mechanism is broke, just as other reviewers here have reported. It's going back.

After so many great reviews, I was very disappointed to receive a badly marred product. On the top of the base, there are major scuffs that could only have been inflicted during manufacture, since they run radially. Unfortunately, this renders it far too unsightly to display, but since it weighs so much (which would be a positive thing if the item weren't defective), it doesn't make much sense to pay the return shipping. Appears to be a great design, but until the manufacturer improves QC (there isn't even a QC stamp/sticker/marking of any kind...), I cannot recommend it. Consider buying locally if possible so you don't get stuck with a (hopefully rare) defective item as I did :-(Customer Review: Magnificent !

Ok... I've never really cared about a paper towel holder before and always settled for the "how cares" route for choosing one. Well I felt like caring this time and went shopping for something sturdy that actually "controls" the towels and how many you get when you pull on it, rather than it simply "holding up the roll".
This product does all that! When I yank on the towel, I hear the clicking mechanism that actually is controlling how much I get. And the whole unit is sturdy ... actually weighty... so I don't feel like it'll fall over. I love this product and I know realize the value of QUALITY vs. compulsive purchases.

I first saw this at a friends house and was impressed with how easy it was to tear off a single sheet of paper towel. I don't have the best wall space to mount a holder, so I use a counter top towel holder dispenser. All the others I have used always seem to be a two handed operation in which you must pull a towel with one hand and use your other (usually wet!) hand to hold the roll so you can tear off a towel. This way it just takes one hand since there is enough tension to stop the roll from completely unraveling, but loose enough so it's still easy to pull. Great invention, wish I had thought of it!
