I bought the Kamenstein Paper Towel Holder and for one week it was wonderful. However, as another reviewer noted, the ratchet mechanism soon broke and it no longer functioned properly so that it was impossible to tear off paper towels with one hand. Unfortunately, I was so happy the first week that I ordered 3 more for family members. When the package arrived, it was poorly packed (also noted by others) and two of the three units were broken. One had a stem that wobbled and the other already had a malfunctioning ratchet system. Overall, the quality of this product is very poor and you should definitely look at alternatives.Customer Review: Broken

My package arrived, but it was broken. It was packaged with something else and clearly rolling around in the box getting slammed by the other item. The bar that holds the paper towels was wobbly and the piece that makes it work was cracked in half. Now I have to deal with shipping costs and the whole mess of packaging it up and sending it back. I could have bought it locally. This is the second time this has happened when ordering from Amazon. The last time I just kept the broken item. My Amazon shopping days are OVER!
As for the product itself........my sister and mom both have it and love it. That is why I ordered one.

I read all of the reviews and thought this was the paper towel holder for me. Boy, was I wrong. It looked beautiful when it arrived and I couldn't wait to use it. Well, I put on my first roll of paper towels and pulled one off. The racheting system worked ok until it came towards the end of the roll. The racheting stopped and jammed and the paper towels ripped in half instead of where they were supposed to. I am going back to the old paper towel holders that just have a stick holding the roll and not a racheting whisk like bar. Jesh, all I want is a paper towel not aggravation. I never would have thought my first review would be for a paper towel holder. This works so well, that I am compelled to add my 5-star rating to this item. It looks great, is sturdy, and provides easy one-handed paper towel pulling and ripping while staying in place. This really is the "perfect" paper towel holder.
Update: after two years, the resistance has decreased to the point where we have to hold the holder with one hand while we pull and tear with the other. So while I suppose anything that last two years these days is a plus, I'm a little disappointed in this item now.

I absolutely love this paper towel holder; I have yet to find fault with it. In comparison to other stainless paper towel holders I have owned and subsequently worn out, this one seems to be the best yet. The build quality is superior, and I like the "click-click-click" sound it makes as you pull the paper towel. It also stays clean looking and doesn't show water spots or finger prints as readily as other models. Also, it fits all sizes of paper towel rolls including "Bounty Big Rolls," so no worries there.
Go out and buy the Perfect Tear! You'll love it.
