Tools and Hardware Reviews of MAGLITE SP2209H 2-AA Cell Mini LED Flashlight with Holster, Gray

Customer Review: 2nd gen better than 1st gen led mini mag
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this flashlight.
I have several regular AA minimags, 1st generation led mini mag and now a 2nd generation.
The 2nd gen is a vast improvement on the first.

First, its brighter than the 1st gen.

Second, if you quickly turn it off then on again, then it dims to save power, blinks, or blinks SOS.

Third, the 2nd gen is shorter then the 1st gen though still longer than the original. I dont know what they were thinking, but the 1st gen had a longer barrel/body with a tail cap that lacked the keyring hole. It was longer because the tail cap was longer at the inside threading and held a longer spring so the barrel/body had to be longer to accommodate it, but I really didn't see a purpose to do that. It was just wasted space. The 2nd gen has a tailcap that is identical to the original minimag, which allowed me to replace the tailcap with a push button on/off switch (made by niteize) that i originally had installed on one of my other minimags.

Mini mags are durable and led bulbs uses much less energy so it can stay on for much longer. Its a great combination.

Customer Review: Great light while it worked
Summary: 2 Stars

I've always liked Mag lights, but this most recent one broke within 2 weeks, which amounts to about 10 minutes of use, only in my home, without dropping it or otherwise causing harm to the light. The slightest tap now makes it shut off or cycle through the settings. I couldn't return it to the store because I didn't have the receipt (Christmas present) so I contacted the Mag Warranty Repair Center thinking they'd be happy to replace it since it was a defect in the manufacturing. Turns out I'm going to have to pay to send it to them and if I'm lucky, might have it back in a month. It just rubs me the wrong way to have to pay to ship something to them to fix a defect in the light. If I'd broken it myself, I'd be happy to pay the shipping, but not when it's through no fault of my own. For what it's worth, the light seems nice for the few seconds it will stay on; I hope you have better luck with yours.

Customer Review: Weak beam with annoying flash options
Summary: 1 Stars

Picked up one of these Maglite LED 2AA lights on Black Friday. Trying it out, the light projected is about half that of a Streamlight flashlight that uses only one AA battery. It's also much more blue of a light. With new batteries, the beam seems quite weak.

Next, I tried the options for a flashing beam, 25% power, and SOS. The packaging included no instructions as to how to use these. After a bit of experimentation, I found the Maglite cycles between all the options. If you want a normal, solid beam, you can use it once. After that, you much turn the Maglite on and off several times to cycle through all the other options.

I want a flashlight that works without me having to turn it on and off several times to get a normal beam of light. Back this goes to the store, as other brands such as Surefire, Fenix, and Streamlight do better.

Customer Review: Maglite catching up
Summary: 5 Stars

Maglite is finally catching up with other flashlight manufacturers with these new LED lights. This is a very bright flashlight and when you use it in the darkness it shines like a reflector and you feel like there must be a much bigger powerplant hidden somewhere in that small package. The light can't be perfectly 100% focused like the other regular Maglite flashlights, but I'm still amazed how close they got, which makes this stick out from other LED flashlights which usually don't have any focusing options. To do this they increased the reflector (head) size so this feels just a bit bigger in your hands than it's older AA brother. Still, with the amount of light it sheds, it is a top performer.

Customer Review: Worst flasglight yet, buy something else
Summary: 1 Stars

I tried to contact Mag with basically no recourse. I spent $20+ on this light and if the head of the light taps anything during use, so say you inspecting an engine bay and you extend the light to look at something, if it hits the side, the flashlight changes modes. Absolutely as irritating as possible, bought two of them and they both do the same thing. I was hoping they would swap it out and be more attentive to the problem. I wouldn't buy another mag light ever. I bought a Dorcy LED light for $5 that turns on, is brighter and turns off. No foolishness needed or blinking, dimming and sos modes if it gets tapped. What a waste of money and time.
