I was a little disappointed with the packaging this came in. It was not wrapped/padded, just literally thrown into the box. Thankfully it was still in the plastic blister pack and that helped protect it (and thankfully maglites are totally indestructible).
I got this for my dear husband as a gift, and he loves it. It's very strong and built to last for ever, as I have come to expect from mag-lite. LED is very bright and focuses in well (did not have problems others have mentioned with adjusting light to focused beam). The color of the light is not completely the same as yellow incandescents?, but it brighter and whiter, did not notice that it is significantly blue or purpley. Overall very satisfied with purchase.

I like this flashlight. I'm not a 'power user' like some folks who bash on maglite, this is a good all around light, great for when I need it for short bursts or weekend camping trips. I went to a cornmaze with some friends and this was by far the brightest light in the group.
I will say that the light adjustment does seem a bit funny. The cone of light doesn't actually get any larger as you turn the lens, it only brightens or darkens the center of the beam. The dark spot in the center is not very useful, so I will just leave it set for a general even spread of light. (my mini single AAA) actually spreads the width of the beam when I adjust it.
Good light, wonky beam adjustment. 4 stars.

I bought this model as a replacement for my quite old conventional 3 D-cell Mag-Lite that had served me very well until a leaking battery ruined it.
I really haven't had to depend on it, so this is just a cursory review. It has an identical feel and heft as the old model. The switch appears to be unchanged, too, which is a plus.
I have to agree with the reviewer that mentioned the poor reflector design. It does not provide smooth, even light. In that regard, it is a disappointment. Even so, the rest of the unit is solid, and the price is quite reasonable for a large LED flashlight with a machined housing. For now, it gets four stars.

Focusable to a beam that will reach out with a spot for a hundred to two hundred yards and illuminate it's area, or broaden it's beam to light up a large nearby patch. Way brighter than xenon or incandesent bulbs. Solid, moisture sealed, and with an easy convenient press switch that turns on the light with a soft held touch or clicks it on and off with a firmer press. This light is so much better than the usual lightweight stuff sold at retail outlets which usually has a diffuse light that only works for nearby areas. The 3D cell LED Maglite is a real bargain at Amazon. Try one of these; and you'll never go back. I've had 3-D Cell Maglites for years. 2 of them (because they last forever). I stopped using them in favor of the little AAA powered 9 LED cheap handhelds for day to day flashlite needs. I recently decided to get a 3 D cell LED Maglite to take the dog out at night in the winter months. I wanted AAA brightness and longevity with better lite throwing / focus power / with something that has some heft to it.
I am EXTREMELY pleased with my purchase of the LED version of the Maglite. If you liked your old Maglite, and were concerned about the LED version measuring up. You will be very happy.
