Tools and Hardware Reviews of Mag-Lite ST4D016 4-D Cell LED Flashlight, Black

Customer Review: Best flashlight at this price point
Summary: 5 Stars

LEDs are finally bright enough to compete with halogen bulbs. There's a lot of things I like about Maglites and this LED model in particular:
* The LED only uses 3 watts so battery life is greatly improved over halogen models
* The flashlight costs as much as the LED upgrade
* The light is almost as bright as the halogen bulb and is more white
* 4D cells is big enough for self defense (6 is better)
* The flashlight is very water resistant with gaskets and a rubber-coated power switch.
* You can remove the head for torch mode

Is this the finest flashlight ever made? No - Try a SureFire M3 Combat light for 10 times the price. For this price, it is the best flashlight. Most of my maglites are about 10 years old. In that time period, only one has failed which I canabalized for spare parts. If you look back in time, KelLite had the first aluminum body flashlights but they weren't water resitant. Maglite burried them.

Customer Review: Great Classic Maglite
Summary: 4 Stars

First of all, I knew about the "black hole" problem people complain about. All Maglites have this. In my opinion, a Maglite only works well when the beam is set to spotlight. If you want a flashlight that floods well, I would look at something else. This is a great light to keep bedside or in your trunk, since it doubles as a weapon if you need it to. If all you want is a bright flashlight, you can find much smaller options that are even brighter. Another reason Maglites are great is that you can drop them, submerge them in water, pretty much abuse the heck out of them and they just keep on working.

Customer Review: Great Flashlight
Summary: 5 Stars

This flashlight is great. I have 176 feet distance between my patio door to the back fence. I used it to watch my dogs go poo poo at night. I can see their eyes reflect and I can see their bodies. I also have a shed back there. When I point at it I can clearly see it. I can point it to the left and right side fences without problems. I also use it to ensure that all my my three gates (two side and one back gate) are not opened. I just make sure when I come home from a long trip late at night that neighboring kids didn't coming in or open the gates.

I own the same flashlight but using the normal yellow bulb. I like the white better.

12/12/2009 - Additional comment. The 4D flashlight is heavy. Good weapon in case you need but heavy. In some occasions, I used another door to get the doors to the backyard to do their business and it is outside our fence. I havce to shepperds so holding holding both of them in one hand, flashlight on the other and opening the house door and fence door is really tough. I recently just bought a Stanley LED 5V flashlight from Lowes named Stanley SL5W09 5 Watt LED Spot. It is so light that I can hold it with a few fingers and open doors or hold the dogs on one hand. It has higher voltage so it is super bright. At 176 feet it is better than the 4D LED Maglite.

Customer Review: You should have one of these...Maglite 4D LED
Summary: 4 Stars

I'm a home user and wanted a heavy duty flashlight which would last me a long time plus have good performance.
I read the reviews of the maglite and felt it to be the one. True to the reviews, it is a good flashlight.
Not as heavy as I was worried about it being. The black hole in the middle of the focus really depends on how you have the rotatable head set. If you rotate it to it's most compact focus, it won't bother you.
it has a good grip in the center of the body and i'm happy that it is shock and water resistant(haven't tried that out as yet).
The only thing that bothers me is a faint clicking sound that comes from the body when I move the flashlight which might have to do with the batteries hitting the sides in the battery compartment...

Was shipped out on time too..

Certainly one of the better flashlights out there....

Super bright. My only complaint is that the replacement bulb it comes with is standard, not LED.
