Tools and Hardware Reviews of Mag-Lite ST4D016 4-D Cell LED Flashlight, BlackCustomer Review: A flaw... Summary: 4 Stars
This light was very bright, the brightest of any flashlight I have ever had. If the dogs were barking in the middle of the night, this maglite made it easy to see what they were barking at. After a couple of years the light started getting dimmer (I didn't use it that much). I got my new batteries out to replace them but the old batteries were stuck. I guess they had swollen and burst. They were Engerizer D batteries.
Apparently this it not an uncommon problem and Maglite will replace the flashlight when this happens but only if the batteries are Duracell, Eveready or Ray-O-Vac so I am out of luck.
Be sure to only use those brands.
Customer Review: Great Classic Maglite Summary: 4 Stars
First of all, I knew about the "black hole" problem people complain about. All Maglites have this. In my opinion, a Maglite only works well when the beam is set to spotlight. If you want a flashlight that floods well, I would look at something else. This is a great light to keep bedside or in your trunk, since it doubles as a weapon if you need it to. If all you want is a bright flashlight, you can find much smaller options that are even brighter. Another reason Maglites are great is that you can drop them, submerge them in water, pretty much abuse the heck out of them and they just keep on working.
Customer Review: Use it like a candle. Summary: 5 Stars
Yeah they cost a little more then a plastic one, but they will last a lifetime. If you don't use it often just make sure you replace the batteries every few years, eventually batteries leak and ruin a flashlight. Even comes with a spare bulb in the battery cap, just remove the spring.
Something a lot of people don't know is using it like a candle. Unscrew the front of the light completely off, then place the end of the flashlight inside what you just unscrewed and stand it up on a table.
Customer Review: Not quite as bright Summary: 4 Stars
I bought both the LED and non-LED version of this light at the same time and have used them both for about a month. The LED version is not quite as bright as the non-LED version and casts an unusual bluish light, compared to the yellowish white light that most people associate with flashlights. That said, the battery life is terrific, and I am generally pleased, but I am unlikely to buy another LED Maglite until there have been improvements to the color of light produced by the bulb.
Customer Review: Just as bright - if not brighter Summary: 5 Stars
I'll admit I was skeptical that an LED flashlight could be as bright as my last 4-cell maglight - but it really is! The light is more even than a normal bulb and it appears brighter because it has a very slightly blue tint.
While it has a blue tint, the LED light is not like most of the BLUE-BLUE LED lights you have seen elsewhere. It just has a slight tint and really is kinda nice.
I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a serious flashlight.
