COMFORT-ADJUSTMENT-ERGONOMIC WASTE OF MONEY
For 13 bucks you basically get what you paid for!
This thing is made entirely, 100%, of plastic! That's not a slam against plastics; just the way it's so poorly used and executed in the design of this shield!
And that's primarily in the two shield pivots and the ratchet adjustment at the rear of the headband! They...don't work! No way will you be able to just "flip" the face shield up using one hand.
The pivots on my unit are so stiff; the detents so tight; and there's so much friction; that raising or lowering the shield is "impossible" without using two hands; one to hold the entire unit down on the top of your head, and the other to literally force the shield itself to move, up or down, while the whole head support cradle twists, warps, digs in, and squirms all over your head! If your hands are in anyway oily, gritty, or soiled in some way (if you're working with metal), you'll either have to wipe them off every time you want to raise the shield, or just transfer the crud to your cranium, and...smear up and probably scratch the heck out of the face plate with your fingers!
Adjusting the rear ratchet mechanism is likewise a...two handed job! With my unit it's so tight and difficult to turn the knob that it may actually be...defective...to start with; I don't know? But...if it's par for the course (and I'm not taking a chance on a replacement unit to find out); it's just a crude, poorly executed, poor quality controlled...piece of junk!
And...even the head strap that goes over the top of your head...it doesn't work? it's impossible to just the "snap" the little protruding button into its mating hole with light finger pressure while the thing is on your head. I had to take mine off and place the button strap on the countertop (button up), and literally bear down with both thumbs on the hole strap to get the button to...snap into the mating hole!
And...just sitting on your head, if you can get any reasonable degree of comfort adjustment out of the thing in the first place; because all the plastic has a memory all it's own it doesn't conform at all comfortably to your head, it just creates uncomfortable pressure points all over the place! You'll definitely be conscious of it the entire time you have this thing on your head.
And...one other thing; there is engraved lettering at the top of, and in the middle of the clear face shield; it falls just below the rim of the hard shell that holds it.
For me it's in the very top of my upper peripheral vision as I look at the work piece and it's like looking through...coarse scratches;
as they move and catch the light it's enough of a distraction to be a real irritant! Raising the shield just a click or two, or any attempt to try and fine adjust it up out of view is, as already described, completely impossible.
In terms of the...ergonomics; nothing about this face shield makes it handy or easy to use, or comfortable and a pleasure to wear.
I'll be shopping for some other brand; in the meantime I'll have to try and polish out the shield on my beat up 25 year old unit that I can't get replacement shields for anymore.
I do not, and have no reason to...exaggerate; and...maybe I just got a totally defective unit; I don't know?
But; if you want to take the chance...caveat emptor! Shop around!
Kudos to Amazon though; one phone call and a pre-paid, return UPS Shipping Label is already in my Inbox.
