Customer Review: OK, they are good, but...

From the way some of these descriptions are written, you'd be afraid to put your finger between two of them for fear it would be crushed flat. Compared to commercial magnets, or even what gets used in some speakers these days, these are pretty tame. But yes, they'll hold more weight than a frig magnet, and if you let two of them touch they will stick firmly, face-to-face, and you'll have to slide them sideways (not pull them straight apart) if you want them separated again.

I put 4 of these into the base of a traffic cone, by cutting slits in the base of the cone. When the cone is placed on a metal surface, it stays put, even in windy conditions. The magnets are about 3/8th of an inch from the metal, due to how I cut the slits, and the sticking power at that distance isn't all that great, though with 4 magnets it seems adequate. The field strength falls off very rapidly with distance, so if you have a clever project in mind, plan accordingly.

Description of Magcraft NSN0582 3/4-Inch by 1/4-Inch Rare Earth Disc Magnets, 4-Count

Rare earth magnets are the strongest type of permanent magnet currently made. They are amazingly powerful for their size and have innumerable uses. These disc magnets are 0.75 inch (19.1mm) diameter and 0.25 inch (6.4mm) thick. They are magnetized through the thickness. They are composed of grade 40 neodymium iron boron magnetic material and are plated in nickel-copper-nickel for a shiny corrosion resistant finish. Their individual pull force is approximately 16 lbs. Maximum working temperature is 176 F (80 C). Magnets may chip and crack if allowed to snap together.
