Tools and Hardware Reviews of Master Lock 1534D Password Plus Combo Lock in Black, Blue, Red, White, Colors may Vary, 1-Pack

Customer Review: Don't buy - the combo changes unexpectly and its CHEAP!
Summary: 1 Stars

Don't buy this lock. Its cheap and literally falls apart and the combo changes.

I bought this lock to lock up my new shed. When its open you can remove the end piece and change the combonation. The problem is, is that the end piece literally 'falls off' if you mishandle the lock even slightly. Unless you are _very_careful_ this can also unexpectedly change the lock's combination to something you won't know.

I've had this happen twice. Once it change 1 number and I thought 'ok, so I'll have to be careful' and I was. But now it changed again. I don't know what to - I've tried everything 'close' to the combo I set.

Now I have a shed with my lawnmower and most of my tools in it which I can't open. I'm probably going to have to call a locksmith or buy a tool to cut the lock off.

On the other hand its so cheaply made I might be able to simply pry it apart with a screwdriver.

Masterlock quality has obviously nosedived.

Customer Review: Lock Piggie ;)
Summary: 4 Stars

If this lock was pink (mine was white) it would look like a little piggie. The combinations have those things that stick up and if you set the combination so those "legs" are down the lock will stand. Probably not the smartest combination idea (too easy to figure out) but cute.

Speaking of easy you can take the numbers and letters off and lock the lock by scrambling the tumblers. Again an easy one to figure just line up the red marks but it might fool school kids.

I like choosing my own combination. The letters and number combinations don't allow for all possibilities. For instance I wanted "ANDY" but there is only 1-A...J tumbler and I needed 2. There are 2-K...T. So before you order think about what combination you'd like. If you need more tumblers this lock is so inexpensive you can buy 2!

This is a very good and sturdy lock system. I need a better hasp though.

Customer Review: Perfect for the gym!
Summary: 5 Stars

I would like to provide a review of this item. I purchased it to use on my rented locker at Gold's Gym and it turned out to be the VERY best choice in padlocks. When you're working out at the gym; you don't want to take time fumbling for a combo number or finding a key in your bag - this was just the answer. I just set the combo to be something super easy for me to remember; using all letters (It has number AND letter wheels) and its a super quick 'open' to my locker. I work out during lunch so saving time is of the utmost. The letters are easier to remember than a number combo for me but, as I said earlier; it does come with number wheels too. You can use both if you want to also - with letters and numbers in your code. Very sturdy, colorful enamel Masterlock. I would recommend this lock to anyone looking for high quality and really reasonable price. I'm happy I purchased it.

Customer Review: Great while it lasts
Summary: 3 Stars

Lock was wonderful until it literally froze up.

The dials are made of plastic. And for some unknown reason to me the dials seemed to have magically welded themselves together. Thus, rather than moving independently as they should, they move all together and there is no way to open the lock if it's closed, or close it if it's in the open position.

Once again, it's literally as if the plastic pieces are welded together. The lock was used in a position where it received a high level of sun UV rays and this could be the cause of the plastic welding together. It did occur gradually until one time I went to use the lock and it literally could not be used anymore.

So I would say, based upon my experience, avoid high sunlight conditions with this padlock.

Customer Review: To open, cut plastic combination wheels
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought one of these for the shed in my yard. Not that I was expecting 'Grade A' security from a combo lock, but this one suffers from remarkably poor implementation. To set your own combination, you remove the plastic combination wheels, exposing four metal cylinders, each marked with a red striped notch. When all four are aligned with the 'Master' logo, the lock opens. The main flaw in this design is that the combination wheels are made from plastic. To break this lock, you only need to cut and remove one of the plastic wheels and align the red notches.

If the combination wheels were made from metal, this lock would actually be pretty nice for what it is meant for, but in its current incarnation, Master Lock might as well have manufactured the whole thing out of plastic.
