I purchased this lock for two main reasons: 1) It looks different than most combination locks, so I can locate my locker quickly without having to remember exactly which locker I chose at the gym; and 2) I liked the idea of setting my own combination so that I could remember it easier.
Unfortunately, the first time I changed the combination, it wouldn't open. I had followed the directions exactly as written, so I was pretty frustrated. I ended up playing with a bunch of combinations, and I stumbled upon the right combination to open it. Turns out it had memorized the first two letters/numbers that I had programmed it with, but not the last one. The last one was way off from what I had selected. So, I programmed it again, and this time it took.
All was well... or so I thought. After using it maybe 5 times at the gym, I went to open it after a workout, and it wouldn't open - not really a good scenario when your wallet and keys are locked in there. I played with it some and found that the last number, which used to be a 4 is now a 3. There are positive clicks for each letter/number, so there's no mistaking one letter/number from the next. It had definitely changed - with no reprogramming on my part.
So, I'm disappointed that I may have to go back to a regular combination lock. But, at this point, I'd rather memorize a random combination number than wonder whether I'll be able to get into my locker next time.
