Tools and Hardware Reviews of Master Lock 265DCCSEN Dual-Function Security Bar

Customer Review: Security bar (MasterLock)
Summary: 5 Stars

This product does exactly what it is intended to do! My next door neighbor has one, and her 300lb dad couldn't get through the door when it was engaged! Now that's not to say that with enough determination, strength, and time that someone can't at some point get through the door - but it will give you more than enough time to call the cops, get a weapon, and hide or exit from another entrance. No one will want to make that much noise to get through your door or take that much time. I love this product, it definitely gives me a piece of mind and I highly recommend it - especially to those in apartments, dorms, or live alone!

Customer Review: Master Lock Door bar, the good and the BAD.
Summary: 2 Stars

Don't get me wrong, I like this product. I think it's quite useful, but unfortunately it has one very serious flaw. I actually don't want to write it directly because this flaw might put people at risk if they are using the door bar.

What I will write is that my brother locked himself out (exited through the automatic garage, but forgot to bring his clicker with him), and had the door bar properly installed at his front door. We defeated the door bar in under 1 minute using a very common household tool.

Think about what you would do if this happened to you, and you will figure out the flaw.

Customer Review: False sense of security
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this item because I am a stay at home mom with a hand disability. We live in a rental apartment and I am very scared to have people break into my home while my husband is off truck driving. First off, it is very sturdy "looking" but my 1 year old son was able to dislodge it from the door with little effort. My husband was also able to "break into" the door after losing his key to the garage by simple pushing the door back and forth twice to dislodge the device. It is good if you are paraoid but know that it doesn't really help prevent a break in, but it will buy a few seconds and alarm me to an intruder.

Customer Review: Purchased for my sliding glass door -- and we love it.
Summary: 5 Stars

I just wanted something that would fit snugly into our sliding glass door. If you use a bar that gives the door any wiggle room, a potential intruder can lift the door enough off of its track to slip a tool under it and dislodge it. This reinforced bar makes it so that an aggressor would need to break glass to get in. It's adjustable, solid, and does the job perfectly.

It came with an attachment for regular doors, which most of the reviews seem to discuss. I don't have anything to say about that. I bought this with one intention only -- to use for our sliding glass door -- and for that, it's perfect.

Customer Review: Saw it broken at Store
Summary: 1 Stars

It was completely broken sitting on the shelf at Target (lots of plastic, thinner steel tubing, & a weak little metal "button" holding everything together, all in the load path) - I'm guessing teenagers, fooling around, tapped it on the floor at a bad angle (the plastic was shattered clear through). I don't trust that product to work when needed. I'd recommend the Buddy Bar Door Jammer (all steel & very good construction), Door Jam Armor, or OnGARD. The last two require installation but the Buddy Bar doesn't so it's great for apartments, hotels, &c, or if you just don't want to install something.
