Tools and Hardware Reviews of Master Lock 4682DBLK TSA Accepted Luggage Locking Strap, 78-Inches, Black

Customer Review: Works Perfectly...with some common sense
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading some of the reviews...I just HAD to comment.

This product works perfectly...it just requires a little common sense.

I bought mine to use on coolers that I take on fishing trips and a large International sized bag.

Some reviews say that you can just resize the strap and slide it off...others say it is hard to reset the combination...others complain about losing them.

I have 4 of them...and the combinations have been reset without any problem.

As far as resizing them: I found the correct width for my coolers and suitcase and simple attached a cable tie around the strap at the right point and it could no longer be moved.

As far as losing them: on my suitcase, I slide it throught the handle and again use a cable tie to hold it in place...and have put a lable on it with my name and phone number....On the coolers, I just drove a screw through the strap and it has held up through many international adventures...with no loss of fresh fish.

Customer Review: Good Idea, but. . .
Summary: 2 Stars

The first strap I ordered didn't function correctly in that I never was able to set my own code. I had to pick the TSA lock (disturbingly easy to do) over and over again when the code I was trying to set wouldn't take, but the strap would lock up on some other code. I ordered a replacement from Amazon, which they sent very quickly, but it doesn't function much better than the first. At least, with this strap, I was able to figure out what errant code it set itself to in spite of my trying to set a code. I now use that code, and I've quit trying to set my own. Between the problems with personal code setting and the ease with which the TSA locking mechanism can be over-ridden, I wouldn't really recommend this as a security measure. As just a strap to keep your luggage closed? Eh, ok. Whatever. I'm sure there's cheaper out there though if you want that kind of thing.

Customer Review: I USED THIS TO LOCK THE CENTER CONSOLE OF SUV'S!!
Summary: 5 Stars

These days, the autromotive industry SUV's and CROSSOVERS are the big sellers. One thing they left by the wayside was a method of LOCKING OUT VALET ATTENDENTS form your glove box, center consoles, etc. There is no truck space, thus nowhere safe to put your stuff when you valet your vehicle. I devised a method where I loosen the center console, properly adjusted this locking strap, and then used a "BUTTONEER" to lock the strap together so the attendent can't loosen the buckle. Then you tighten the mounting bolts of the console and you lock the seatbelt-like lock over the top of the console. It worked!! I realize that the strap could be cut, but that would be so obvious when they return your vehicle. The attendent would surely be confronted. It's a great theft deterrent for this application.

Customer Review: Okay but a little Bulky
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased this luggage strap with built in TSA locks to make sure my luggage stays together if the zipper fails or to keep out casual thieves. However, the lock is bulkier than some of the competition, and the plastic pieces fit together in a rather awkward fashion...not a very quick release---too hard to describe here. If I had looked a little longer I would have discovered a competitor has a trimmer lock with an easier fastening system. But for what it does it is okay for now. The combination to the lock was easy to reset to my own combo but be advised that if you travel outside the US, not too many other countries have the key for TSA locks so you are liable to get your strap/lock cut off if they decide to search your checked luggage and you are not present.

Customer Review: NOT THIS PRODUCT
Summary: 1 Stars

Wonderful product idea. Borrowed a hard golf case from a friend but no way to use regular TSA lock. The locking strap looks perfect. Anyway, to the point... what good is a locking strap if I can adjust the size when it is locked and slip it off what ever it is strapped on. Sure, it takes a couple SECONDS. This is nothing but a cosmetic product unless you are going to strap it to something that is around 78-inches so someone can't just adjust the size and get at whatever you thought you were protecting. A more logical version of this would be more like a belt where the lock wouldn't allow any adjustment to the size unless you opened the lock. Learn from my lesson and don't buy this product.
