Tools and Hardware Reviews of Master Lock 5401D Select Access Wall-Mounted Key Storage Box with Set-Your-Own Combination Lock

Customer Review: Easy to Install and Configure
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a nice little key lock box that provides a discrete and easy way to store a small number of keys. The four-digit combination was easy to set and the whole things was easy to install. If installing on a concrete or sheetrock wall, you will have to supply your own mounting anchors, since the lock came with screws only. I gave it four stars out of five only because I have not yet experienced anybody actually try to break into it. I live in a relatively high-crime area and I installed the lock with the intent of it being very hard to break into. Time will tell. Otherwise, I am very satisfied with it.

Customer Review: Strong and Solid: Pays for itself the first time you are locked out.
Summary: 5 Stars

There is no question I will use one of these at every property I ever live in or own. Once you've screwed it to the wall (preferable a stud with bigger/longer screws than those that come with it), you're set! You can be confident that your keys are safe and sound right where you need them. You can let yourself in if you lose your keys or you can give someone the combination so they can let themselves in. Then you can change the combination so those you gave the number to can't let themselves in again without your permission.
I only wish I could rate this 6 out of 5 stars. Oh well.

Customer Review: Combo key lockbox
Summary: 5 Stars

Throw away the mounting screws they send with this lock box. I used some 3" wood screws, and now I know it will stay where I left it.
Put the combo at eye level, and you will have no problems. A little hard to work one handed, but all in all a very nice way to keep yourself from being locked out of your house. I left one of the mounting screws (I used 4) a little loose, and hooked my keys on a ring so they can dangle on that screw head. Otherwise you have a hard time getting more than a couple of keys to fit to make closing this thing easy. I have 4 keys in there now with no problem.

Customer Review: Have two already, buying a third.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a couple of these outside for emergency access to the outbuilding. You can't break into them with a pocketknife, so they're quite safe. They come with mounting hardware, but if you need a bit of extra peace-of-mind, you can use heavier hardware to mount them and not have to worry about breaking the case if you really cinch it down.

I live where we get quite a bit of rain and wind, and the keys have stayed dry and safe inside them.

I'm buying a third one to put outside the barn, because it's just so darn far back to the house when you forget the key...

Customer Review: 4 years and going strong
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought this at lowes about 4 years ago. It has since been moved several times as I move often. It has been in and out of the weather for long durations. Not all my places had a porch so it def. go some wear. However, it still functions like it did when I bought it new. Solid construction. You would need a sledge hammer to get this thing off the wall/open. My only problem is the lever to open it is a bit short and can take some pressure to get it open. Other than that, I love it and would recommend it to someone who needed one (Really I think everyone should have one).
