Customer Review: Good gun lock

This lock is excellent for securing firearms against discharge. On most revolvers and self-loaders, it can be fit snugly within the trigger guard and behind the trigger; at that point, the trigger cannot be pulled. (And if trigger pull is prevented, hammers can't be cocked or slides racked.) An option for a revolver would be to open the cylinder and run the shank through the frame. Depending on the size of the firearms, the lock can disable two or even three at once.
Many widely advertised trigger locks (including Master locks) can be defeated in literally seconds by a 10-year-old with a penknife, and the cheap cable locks some manufacturers supply can be snipped with bolt cutters. Removal of this U-lock, however, would take considerable time and labor with a file. There's also plenty of space for running a serious cable if you want to secure your guns together or tether a gun to a car seat.
The non-scratching shank seems to be just the right diameter. It fits the trigger guards of long guns, too, as well as the guards of pocket pistols like the Beretta 21 and Ruger LCP.
Of course, you should unload your firearm before locking it, store your ammo separately, and check that this lock properly disables your particular gun. And when you're not home, keep your handguns not only locked but also in a safe.
