Tools and Hardware Reviews of Maxxima 5 LED Occupancy Sensor LightCustomer Review: For Travel or Just Lazy! Summary: 5 Stars
These are the best out there. I've bought at least fifteen of these and had them for at least a year, and let me assure you they're exactly what you want if...
When you travel, whether it's to your parents' house or a strange hotel in a country where the electric plug is downright strange, this helps getting up when it's dark and you don't know where the light is, or when you go to the bathroom (including the path getting there);
At home in your bedroom (especially if you live alone) and you don't feel like turning the lights on and off. I adjust the timer so they stay on long enough for me to get to the bed and under the covers. I haven't turned on a light in my bedroom since I bought these!
When you have company, the first and second paragraphs. They love the fact that these turn on automatically and turn off equally without any bother on their part, and everybody loves lighting the way to the bathroom.
It doesn't happen often, but when the electricity goes out!
When a motion detector activated light will give you peace of mind against intruders.
I've had a few LCD bulbs burn out (the most frequently used) after a year or so, but these are so inexpensive.
I highly recommend going to the manufacturer's website and ordering the AC adapters! It will result in a next-to-nothing cost on the energy, and who doesn't love that?
And finally, little kids marvel at them and laugh!
Customer Review: Useful Light Summary: 4 Stars
Purchased this light as a cheaper alternative to a Mr Beams LED Stair light that we love. We use these lights in our bathroom so our dog can use the restroom at night without having to leave a light on. The Maxxima 5 LED light works well but did need a slight fix....I placed the unit on the floor of the bathroom to pick up the motion from our dog and the light would turn on but turn off a few seconds later. I soon figured that the light reflecting off of the tile floor caused the light sensor to turn the LED lights off. This was simply fixed by placing a few pieces of masking tape over the light sensor to decrease the sensitivity. The sensor still works and only turns on when the bathroom lights are off and the motion sensor works well. The output is bright for this type of light and there are so many uses for lights like these around the house for safety i.e. stairway light, hall light, etc.
Overall a good purchase and will consider buying more if the need arises.
Customer Review: So useful, I can't make up my mind where to put it! Summary: 5 Stars
This light and motion sensitive nightlight is pretty powerful. I ordered mine without the adapter so I'm using 4 rechargeable AA batteries. I tried it out in several locations in my apartment which needed a night light. It is reasonably effective. To be truly effective, it would need a wider field of motion sensing but that might cause it to be overly sensitive. The light sensor triggers the nightlight when the ambient light is dim but not pitch dark. Some people might find that overly sensitive.
Late at night for those little trips from bedroom to other parts of the place, I've found myself just picking it up on my way to another part of the house because it's easier than flicking the house lights on in the dark. How is that for convenient?
I ordered this product Aug. 2008. If you order directly from Maxxima instead of Amazon, you get free shipping with a minimum $25 purchase instead of $50.
Customer Review: Best on the market Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned three of these units and two others with only the two LED bulbs and am very pleased. It is best to use lithium batteries if you use them as I do in high traffic areas--bottom of the stairs, top of the stairs, bathrooms, kitchen. We can walk from room to room at night without turning on lights and our electricity bill has dramatically reflected this. I like the portability to take on trips where I can put it low next to my side of the bed so it lights my path when I get up without waking my spouse.
If I had one thing to suggest to the company it would be to design an optional holder so it would be harder to knock over inadvertently. Come to think of it, I actually could do that myself. Very pleased and about to order another one for another bathroom. When I came across the reviews, I felt I needed to add mine, since I am so very glad these are available.
Customer Review: Sensor does not work Summary: 1 Stars
This product is a good idea, and the light appears to be adequate and work well enough. The problem I ran into is that the sensor is not very sensitive at all, and 8 times out of 10 does not pick up movement within the room. I have this mounted to the ceiling of a small closet, which is totally in the dark. Even though the sensor is facing the door, the light does not come on when the door is opened (very large door, I would think that would cause the sensor to activate), or even when I place my arms inside to grab an item from the closet. Most times I need to wave my hands up towards the ceiling rapidly in order to make it come on, then when it does come on, it only stays on for 2-3 seconds and shuts right off. The ceiling is only 9 ft. I would not recommend this product because of the sensor, but I guess I could have received a defective unit.
