Customer Review: Useful motion sensor night light

The Maxxima is a pretty good night light. I bought 3 motion sensing night lights for my apartment and here's my review of all of them for comparison. Very bright and because of the LED's white light (better than the yellowish candescent GE motion sensor night light and the milky white Target brand "AmerTac" LED motion sensor night light) and has an option for batteries. Sensor can pick up from ~10 ft (a little farther than the GE and Target one) away which is pretty good, but the motion sensing angle isn't that good varies between ~120-150 degrees (about the same as the GE and the Target one). I have it in the hallway, and I have to stumble a couple feet before it picks up my movement, so I wish I could find something with 180 degree field of view. A side note, the Maxxima night light is abnormally large, so this will cover both light sockets (regardless of orientation). The light stays on for a period of time ~30 sec, however I prefer the GE motion sensor light which stays on on longer (roughly a minute). The Target brand one on the other hand, seems to stay on forever (it turns off after a couple minutes). The Maxxima's great in the hallway and even in the bathroom, but definitely too bright (for me at least) in the bedroom.Customer Review: Okay for intended usage - $$$$ Energy Savings-BUT not as bright as 10 LED

Have placed at entrance to Large den allowing plenty of lighting to cross room to lamps w/o having to constantly switch ceiling light fixture on/off - ergo the $$$$ saving in the long run.
It does take 4 AA Batteries - We use Moonrays - rechargables in all
Adding these - Maxxima MLN-10 LED Night Light with Sensor (Pack of 4) already in 3 outlets on dark side of room - and one will never stumble around 3 desks and 4 bookcase cabinets.
If U have one that is inactive [unplugged] for a while - plug in - it will take a day or so to get going again - thot one had burned out - it hadn't.
These allow room for surge bar plugs under them when placed in top of the outlet

I bought this to illuminate dark areas on my stairs which have no electrical outlet nearby for safe passage at night.
The LED light is certainly bright enough to illuminate the stairs at night for safe passage. in fact my lovely wife complains it's TOO bright. It will last far longer than a fluorescent or incandescent bulb, and will give more illumination bang for the battery-life buck than either of those. So LED is a good choice for this application.
The range is around 10 feet, which is minimally acceptable for my purposes, but certainly good for a closet.
Two things that are less than ideal for my purposes:
The motion detector cannot "see" motion that is above the plane of the sensor. So you can't put it on the landing below and expect it to illuminate the stairs when you descend from above.
The light sensor is not sensitive enough, so that the little bugger still illuminates during the day despite regular houselights being on. Not a problem, but rather wasteful.
It would also be nice if the motion sensor could be rotated to point away from the light, but that's asking too much for such a reasonably priced item.
All in all, if you need to intermittently spot-illuminate an area without an outlet, this will do the trick.

I don't know why people degrade a product rating when they simply did not order a product that suits their requirements. This light is not intended to light up a room, it's designed to let you see your way when no other light is available. What it's designed to do, it does superbly.
The motion sensor is extremely sensitive and never fails; it doesn't waste batteries by turning on when other light is available and so the batteries last a long time. It can rest on a table top or hang on a wall with the provided screw. It does take four AA batteries but they last a long time. I have one beside my bed that allows me to get up during the night to make my way to the bathroom without the shock of turning on a bright light. I have another in the bathroom, same reason.
I came back today to order three more, one for my study where I have to cross the room to turn on a light, another for my storage shed, another for my truck cab where the overhead has quit working.
You can get cheaper but not with anywhere near the performance. As you can tell, I'm very pleased with this product and that seldom happens these days so I'm happy to take the time to write a rave review.

I sleep in the far end of an 18X10 bedroom and have to get up occasionally at night. The light switch is at the other end of the room and the lamp by my bed isn't convenient to find when waking up, so this light is the solution. It sits by the door on an etergere and turns on with a wave of my hand when I come through the door or by itself after I'm 5 feet or so inside. It is sensitive enough to know I got out of bed and makes actually a little too much light when I've been sleeping and my eyes don't want a bright light shining at me. Perhaps I can find a better location. In fact it's bright enough to the point that as I get out of my bed and walk to the door, I have to shade my eyes with my hand.
I use NImH AA batteries (4) and they need charging at around 3 months.
One problem with the setup of having it point at the bed from the far door is that it comes on by itself sometimes and wakes me up. Maybe I'm thrashing around in my sleep, I don't know.
I might try putting it under my bed facing the door to see how that works, but all in all I'm very happy with this item. I've had it for about a year now.
