I've been buying these at Lowe's they went up to $49 so, I did some looking around on Amazon and was able to find this model for $33.70 with free shipping so, I couldn't pass it up. They offered a 3 pack but it didn't warrant buying three when there was barely a track of a discount.
I have to agree with a previous review that I think this filter works longer than 6 months I write the date on the cartridge and the fridge has a light that changes to red to let you know when to change the filter but it always is about 7+ months and this last time when Lowe's jacked up the price it was over 8 months and I couldn't tell a difference in the water quality and in our area you definitely would because there is a lot of lime in the water supply because the water comes from a lime quarry.

This does exactly what it's supposed to do. Removal and installation were very easy, there was no loud pop like there was when we removed the cap that was on the fridge from the factory. I put a small dishtowel right under the filter when we removed it and it caught the little amount of water that came out.
We had replaced the filter after about 1 year with no significant performance reductions. We did not notice a reduction in flow, or any particulate matter in the water. However when I drained the water out of the old filter there was a ton of black specs that came out. Just FYI, our household only consists of 2 people but we regularly drink a couple of glasses per day. I think most couples should be able to get a year out of the filter.
Customer Review: Bad Ice Cubes? Get this

My Ice Cube make was having major problems. Ice Cubes were hollow and Ice was sticking on the White Prongs that pop the cubes out. I called Amana and they were no help so I figured that the Cube maker was not getting enough water flow.
I replaced with this filter and now the Ice Cube maker is like new and the water shoots out of the dispenser like crazy. What used to take 25-30 seconds to fill a glass of water now takes 3-5 seconds.
So if you are having Ice Cube issues or poor water flow buy this.
It's a little expensive for a water filter but it's worth it.
Oh and the water tastes good too.

This is a very expensive item for what you get, and it certainly doesn't last as long as they say it does. The taste of your water coming through this filter is great for the first month or so, but then the quality drops noticeably quick.
I think the price of this item is unfairly high, but once you buy a refrigerator that needs them, you're stuck. You either buy the filter or put up with nasty tasting water from your refrigerator spigot.
A good rule of thumb, if you're buying one filter, better buy two, because you'll need a new one quicker than you think.
