Tools and Hardware Reviews of McCulloch MC-1275 Heavy-Duty Steam Cleaner

Customer Review: Love the McCulluch - Replaced my shark mop
Summary: 5 Stars

My shark mop stopped working one day and, as working mom of two little boys, it didn't take long for my tile floor to get out of control and sticky. I simply don't have the time to do the deep 'in the corner' cleaner I would like - it has to be quick and hit the highlights.

I was not at all disappointed - if you like the shark mop - you'll love the McCulloch. This machine allows me a little more time and power to clean a little deeper. I wanted something to blast off the dried on sticky stuff from my tile floors without too much effort. I like being able to use the nozzle to clean the grout (particularly in the high traffic areas) then quickly switch to the floor mop to clean it all up. I was also able to use the shark steam mop replacement pads on the floor unit of the MuCulloch.

I got really excited when I turned the nozzle to my stove top and had it shining and gunk free in minutes - next the microwave (awesome).

I spent time looking at steam cleaner online and the options of what to buy ranges from the little steam mops for under $100 up to the more industrial steam cleaners in the $1k+ range. I decided to try this machine priced around ~$100 (which is close to what I paid for my shark steam mop a few years back). I love this machine enough to consider an even more powerful unit should I ever need to replace it.

FYI, the comparable Wagoner steam cleaner gets the same positive reviews, looks the same as the MuCulloch but is about $15 cheaper. I didn't remember it until I had already purchased the Muculloch - I'm still happy.

Pros - works well
Cons - steam nozzle is loud, holding button down is tiresome, would be nice to have compartment to store all accessories.

Customer Review: Works well for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had this product for a few weeks and used it extensively when moving into a new place. When I bought it, I had reasonable expectations for the performance and the steamer has performed as it was described. I like that both the hose and the cord for this unit have a long reach which make it easy to do big jobs. I would have liked to see some sort of storage for these on the unit but you can easily wrap them around the wand holder for storage.
The steam produced is powerful and long lasting. I think that I have gotten about 45 minutes of steam from this unit when I filled the reservoir to the maximum recommended amount.
When doing small detail work you almost never have to wait for the machine to catch up. Consider ear protection for these jobs as the sound of steam coming out of the nozzle can be quite loud especially if you are working in a small area. When using the floor attachment or other big attachments you sometimes have to wait for the steam to recharge a little. On the plus side, this can give you a chance to clean up all the dirt it has loosened. There is an indicator on this unit that lets you know if the pressure is low at the moment.
The attachments are not flimsy and I think that they include most of the ones you would need to do most jobs. Overall I think the quality of this unit is above average and it looks like it should last for awhile. For the price I think it is a good value. I wanted something that was reasonbaly put together but did not want to spend the money on a more powerful steamer until I knew what they could do. I would recomend this steamer to anyone looking to try out steam cleaning and not wanting to waste money on junk or more than what they need.

Customer Review: Great product for the price...
Summary: 4 Stars

I have had this product for about a year now, and I love it for many reasons:

Does a great job cleaning tile floors. TIP: no need to buy the floor pads, just double over a microfiber cloth, and flip it over when it gets nasty!

Great job at removing sticky, greasy spots, esp. in the kitchen area.
Cleans chrome and mirrors beautifully.

Wonderful for using on your baseboards...really 'blasts' out the grime, especially in those corners, but BEWARE...it will remove paint if you scrub with the brush attachment (I don't use any attachments for this, and I use a microfiber cloth to wipe up the water)

Will steam away lots of spots/stains, esp. in kitchen and bathroom area.
Great for using around the toilet! Also removes that funky pinkish mildew in the shower.

The cons:

Will not remove that black bathroom mildew in the grout.

Attached brushes must be used gently or they will ruin easily (the bristles will bend and get flattened if you use too much pressure)

Will not remove those seriously baked-on food spots; as in the flat black baked on ones. DOES remove most other food spots, though.

Anyway, I really enjoy this thing, and with no attachments attached, it will blast out funk from behind your sink, toilet lid, etc. I was impressed with the amount of steam, too. Note that the machine will cycle on and off to maintain the proper steam pressure in the tank, so sometimes, the you'll have tons of steam, and sometimes just a little less. It's not enough difference to really make a difference when cleaning. I would definitely recommend this product to all of you clean freaks like me out there!

Customer Review: NOW THE REST OF THE STORY!!! BEWARE!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have got to give an update!! As you see, I purchased this product approx 1 year ago exactly. I that time period, the boiler, which must be made of aluminum, corroded turning the distilled water into what looks what nuclear waste would be - dirty and thick with nasty sediment. This product is potentially very dangerous too. Long story short - while removing the cap to add more water, it blew off and out of my hand, spewed the nasty, toxic steam up like a gyser ruining the ceiling and rained back down all over expensive, year old carpet! Thank God I had enough brains to NOT be leaning over the unit while releasing the steam in order to remove the cap to add water. A sticker ON THE UNIT in clear view states "wait at least 5 minutes before adding water." Well, you have no way of knowing if the unit is actually empty. Plus, the manual clearly states to wait 30 minutes! That does make more sense since the water is under pressure. Be careful people! This product is a serious accident waiting to happen!!! Plus, the boiler corroding within a year is unacceptable!! Don't waste your money!

I purchased this item in order to sanitize and deodorize a fairly large area of new carpet. My poor cat had eaten a portion of a plastic bag and got really sick. My Simon recovered and I got the "accident" out of the carpet, but I wanted to make certain that the carpet not only looked clean, but was clean. I had a small Hoover steam cleaner - but it wouldn't work. I read a couple of reviews, and I decided to order this item. It was easy to set up and to use. With so many attachments, there are all kinds of things I can clean and disinfect. I give it a 2 thumbs up.

Customer Review: Lifesaver--especially for parents or pet owners
Summary: 4 Stars

I've got four kids, a rowdy puppy that has accidents, and a cat that likes to vomit.

Things get very dirty in our house, but this little cleaner is a workhorse. It powers through even the toughest pet stains and leaves absolutely no pet odor in the carpets. It will run for a good while before running out of steam, so you can do quite a lot of cleaning with one full tank. It does take several minutes to heat up--ten to fifteen at least--and the one drawback is that it works similar to a car radiator. You cannot get the cap off until the steam pressure is completely released and it's cooled sufficiently. I realize this is a safety feature and try not to be annoyed by it when I run out of steam and have to stop before finishing all the cleaning I'd wanted to accomplish.

Although it didn't completely wipe out the mildew stains in bathtub of the older house we recently purchased, it really did well considering how long they've probably been there.

Have kids and fabric cushioned dining chairs or fabric upholstery on your furniture? You'll be sold within a use or two if you take this to the stains on the cushions. My youngest spills constantly and I use this to release the stains and the Hoover SteamVac Carpet Cleaner, All-Terrain, F7452900 to vac up any moisture. Between these two products, my sanity has been saved as well as my carpets, upholstery, kids clothes, walls, etc. I have discovered that it does NOT remove adhesives very well, but for everything else I need it for, it's done pretty darn well.
