Tools and Hardware Reviews of McGuire-Nicholas 1NT-670-P 10 Pocket Multi-Purpose Professional Tool PouchCustomer Review: Well made pouch... But TEN pockets? Summary: 4 Stars
When I count them, there are nine. "So what?", you say. Nine or ten, not a big difference or big deal. You would be correct if you said that. I guess they are counting a nylon sleeve on the lower right side as a pocket. Lets stop picking nits, OK? OK.
This is a fairly well made pouch. All man-made materials, seems to hold up well, and is resistant to moisture and dirt. There were two reasons I made this purchase. I needed a pouch that would hold several different kinds of nails (not all at the same time), a tape measure, a hammer, a razor knife and a pencil or two. This one does that very well. My only complaint is that other than those uses, the pouch isn't as "multi-purpose" as one might wish. It does what I needed, and therefore no complaints. But if you want a pouch that has a more varied selection of pocket sizes, then this one may not be what you need.
There are two full width pockets, one at the top which is about six inches deep and the largest pocket which is almost eight inches deep. If you are carrying nails of some other types of homogeneous material, then these pockets work pretty well. But they are so wide and deep that screwdrivers and pliers tend to get on their sides and stacked up at the bottom of the pocket. I find myself digging around for the tool I want, or removing several in hopes of "hitting the jackpot" and coming out with the one I need and then rejecting the others. If there were some dividers in these large pockets, the small hand tools would stand up, and be far easier to find and select the ONE tool you want.
The six small pockets are just that... SMALL They are so small that a pencil or a nail set or some other very skinny tool is about all that will fit in 4 of them. These smallest pockets are only about 3 inches deep, so a long skinny tool might not have enough support and be lost. The remaining two small pockets are nicely sized for smaller hand tools such as a razor knife, or small pliers or shorter screwdrivers. The last pocket is great for a tape measure, or as a nail pouch. It is generously sized to accept even 30 foot tapes with room to easily slide your hand into the pocket and grab the tape. The open nylon sleeve would be OK for a small combination square. Lastly, I have to admit that I am slightly mystified by TWO hammer loops only about 3 inches apart. Seems like one would be enough. However the second one doesn't get in the way.
So, it does warrant 4 stars, especially for the quality of the construction. If the pocket sizes fit your needs, then it might be a five-star product. Either way it's well made and should last a long time.
Oh, and I said in the second paragraph there were two reasons that I purchased this pouch. When I ordered it Amazon was offering these at the reduced price of eight dollars and ninety-nine cents and free shipping. At that price, I figured that if I used it for only the one project I was purchasing it for, I was still getting a bargain!
