Customer Review: Good Tool Bag -- Disappointed
Summary: 3 Stars
I believe that this McGuire-Nicholas rolling tool bag was manufactured for the purpose of being just that -- a tool bag. My reason for purchasing it was to use to carry some school supplies plus a very small, lightweight folding printer, all of which easily fit in the bag.
My critisms of this rolling tool bag apply to either of the uses I mentioned:
1) I think that the wheels are too small. If one runs over a crack in the pavement (sidewalk, etc.) then you feel it. On a smooth concrete floor inside a plant, its rolling would be smoother.
2) The handle does not lock into place (as opposed to rolling back packs or airline carry-on bags); so that if one has to momentarily push on the handle in order to maneuver the tool bag, the handle may tend to collapse.
3) The handles are short enough and the toolbag is wide enough that while walking, one's foot can actually hit the bag behind. To deal with this, I walk offset, pulling the handle by one of the corners so that I try to walk offset from the tool bag in order to avoid hitting it with my shoe.
4) A last criticism is that one can't really zip and unzip the tool bag with one hand. This is because the zipper spans the width of the top of the tool bag, but then runs down a little way on either side. This requires using one hand to hold the end of the zipper steady, while the other unzips the bag which, I find, annoying at times.
Construction wise, I think this tool bag is well-made, but I don't like the non-locking handle, the small wheels, and the zipper which, if fully zipped, requires the use of two hands to open.
In summary, in the construction area, I think that the McGuire-Nicholas rolling tool bag is well-made; in the design area, I think this warrants going back to the "drawing board" or CAD program.
