Tools and Hardware Reviews of Mighty Mule FM502 Automatic Gate Opener for Heavy Duty Dual Swing Gates

Customer Review: Works great - now my neighbors have them!
Summary: 5 Stars

I installed one at our family beach home. The install was easy (although I had to spend a little time to improve my gate and post so it wouldn't drag.) Two and half years later and both my neighbors have gotten one - ideal location for solar.

Make sure your gate opens smoothly without hitting the ground before installing or it will stall when it drags.

I had to finally change the remote setting from factory because my neighbor's didn't and I open all three sets of gates when I use my remote.

The intercom is nice to use when guests are visiting, when they call you from the road you can let them in. However, you can also deny entrance to your daughter's boyfriend!

Customer Review: The circuit board worked only for 4 month
Summary: 1 Stars

Well, I bought the 502 dual opener 4 month ago and had a professional installed for me. I use the opener for about once a day. Last week it stopped working. I followed the trouble shooting guide and eventually found that the circuit board stopped charging the batteries. Spent half a hour calling into the GTO tech support and was told to send in the circuit board for checking if it was caused by lightning, power surge, or is a defect (warranty only covers defects).

My suggestion is to stay away from it.

Customer Review: Great price, but you will pay later.
Summary: 2 Stars

The opener worked flawlessly for about 1 year. After spending some time with tech support, which is very good but requires too many steps, determined the board was bad and covered by warranty. It was the original green board. Now the unit is no longer under warranty and the replacement board is bad, this time a relay seems to be the issue. Now I'm looking at a replacement board for over $200 with a 1 year warranty. I don't know if the blue board is any better, but I'm hesitant to try.

Customer Review: Just like the other reviewers- horrible gate opener
Summary: 1 Stars

This is for GTO 3200. Had nothing but problems with this opener- replaced 2 circuit boards, and 2 gate arms. None covered by warranty. Just like others in these reviews, was told the fault was mine, either by power surge or claimed lightning strike. The final straw was last week when the gate arm was diagnosed as "stripped". In 2 years. Now the dealer wants me to upgrade and spend another $1200 on a GTO, with installation. I'll be trying another brand.

Customer Review: GTO/Mighty Mule FM 502
Summary: 5 Stars

I am very pleased with my purchase and the ease of installation. Only time will tell how long it will hold up, but GTO makes quality products, so I am confident it will last.

10 Sepember, 2009 Update
It worked flawlessly for two years or until the warranty expired. I am now having also sorts of problems and it is presently not working. I am looking into buying a new gate opener and it won't be a Mighty Mule.
