Tools and Hardware Reviews of Moen 1225 One-Handle Replacement CartridgeCustomer Review: OEM part easy to DIY for less moola e'en with no plumbing experience Summary: 5 Stars
I had a leaky kitchen faucet. Knowing that Moen has a life-time warranty, I called them. I did not purchase the original faucet, so I couldn't get the part for free. But they told me I needed a replacement cartridge, Moen part 1225. Ordered one from Amazon. Caught a video on YouTube and did it myself. It wasn't hard. Took a little muscle, but not too much. I'm a small-framed woman who has never done a plumbing repair. Remember that, folks. Armed with YouTube knowledge, I forged on. The diagrams that came with the part were sort of helpful. All it took was a couple of screwdrivers (a small standard and a Philips) and a wrench, oh, and a gripper because the old cartridge didn't want to move. I didn't need a special tool to remove the old cartridge. Just some oomph and muscle I built up from all those years of carrying around babies. Luckily, I got the hot/cold configured right on the first try. Woo-hoo! And now, I know for sure where the main water shut-off is for our home that we purchased two years ago. Good to know. :) Be strong and courageous. If I can do it, anybody can do it.
Customer Review: Excellent, can't recommend highly enough Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent replacement for single handle moen faucets. I purchased the puller tool, which made the job quick and easy (although a little pricey, the puller was worth it). Replaced one faucet due to a small drip, the other just because they are dual sinks. Faucets were approx 6 years old. After replacement the drip is gone and both faucets feel like new, very smooth and easy to move the handles. Glad I also replaced the one that didn't really need it, these are inexpensive enough and easy enough to do that replacing them every 5 years seems a good idea to keep them working in top shape. I'm impressed with how easy the whole process is, and how replacing this one cartridge practically gives you a brand new faucet as far as operation. Plenty of youtube videos to show you the process. Be sure to close the sink drain FIRST so you don't loose the little set screw or cap down the drain. I like these so much, I bought a few extra to do the other sinks in the house when they start feeling a little sticky.
Customer Review: Moen Cartridges Short Life !! Summary: 1 Stars
I had to replace a cartridge on a new Moen faucet that was only 18 months old and at first Home Depot was all out of 1225 so they gave me a substitute that leaked after I waisted my time then I went to another hardware and purchased a Moen 1225. I wrote to them regarding the leak in less than a year and half but they never replied. On the internet some other brands make it so easy to see instructions on replacement procedures but with Moen you have to click all over to get somewhere. Also the instruction inside the cartridge is not the best. I used to change cartridges when the faucets were simple and you just pull out the cover on top, the clip, made a half turn and was done in a couple of minutes, good luck if you put back in some pieces in reverse (They look alike on both sides but it will leak if not put in correctly!). No more Moen in my house for the future.

Customer Review: Worked for me Summary: 4 Stars
Purchased this cartridge because it was a Moden OEM part. My Moen faucet is going on 15 years old and it had started to drip. It took all of about 5 minutes to put the cartridge in. I had no trouble getting the old one out or putting this one in.
As others have mentioned it was backwards on the first try (hot was cold, cold was hot) so I had to remove it, turn it around and put it back in. Less than five minutes more doing that. I only gave it four stars because there ought to be a way to mark it so you don't have to do it by trial and error.
All I can say to the folks that wrote saying they had trouble removing the old cartridge or installing the new one is read the directions (they are pretty good) and pay attention to the details. It isn't rocket science but you have to do it the way they tell you or you will have problems.
Customer Review: Moen Medora Faucet Drip an Easy Fix Summary: 5 Stars
Our Moen Medora (7599) kitchen faucet was leaking and there are no washers to change. The Moen cartridge (1225) needs to be replaced. The trick is that you need the plastic adapter (included with the new cartridge) to remove the old cartridge. So don't bother taking apart the faucet until you get the new cartridge with the adapter. Don't try to pull the old cartridge out with pliers, you'll just make things worse. Take off the faucet handle from the top to get to the cartridge. All you need is a hex wrench, a screwdriver, adjustable wrench and about 20 minutes to fix the drip. Moen customer support was helpful and they also have a video on their website.
