Moonrays 99924 Color-Changing Glass Ball Fixture
I love my Moonrays Color-Changing Glass Ball Fixtures! (Although I'm not completely enamored with Amazon). We saw similar color changing globes during a trip to the coast and decided to create the same romantic tranquil feeling back home. I read countless reviews of similar products, realized I wanted metal stakes and glass globes for their sturdiness, and seven colors instead of three for their variety- ergo, my Moonrays selection. The pictures on Amazon do not do them justice. They are much prettier in person. However, some things to keep in mind: the lights are great accent lighting, yet too dim for walkways; they do change to multiple colors, yet don't be surprised if they cycle red more frequently and longer than any other color; they look best if you have more than one; and most important, make sure they all work before sticking them in the ground. Specifically, they'll need at least one full day in the sun to fully charge. You may need to exchange some to get them all working. Winter is a difficult time to figure out if them not turning on, or not turning on long enough, is the product or simply limited sun exposure. In the winter, they may only stay lit a couple of hours in the evening, even if they are "working properly". But, now that we're into late March and have more daylight hours, I can wake in the early morning and still see some of them lit. I absolutely love them and only wish they'd stay lit longer in the winter. (We bought nine of them late last year- exchanged three).

I ordered two of these initially and after seeing them in action, ordered two more. They are absolutely beautiful and the two that I first ordered have been working well for over a month. Not sure how long they light up at night, but I know they go for at least four - five hours (I have them in an area that receives direct sunlight most of the day). I would expect them to cost much more, but at this price they are a bargain. The only downside so far is the glass globe, which if broken, would render the light pretty much useless. But its hard to imagine getting this kind of lighting effect using a plastic globe.
UPDATE: A month into using these (I now have five), one has failed (replacing the battery did not work) for no apparent reason. The other four are still going strong. They do need A LOT of sunshine to be really effective, but are really eye catching and, despite the failure of one of them, I am still very pleased with the purchase overall. NOTE that these should not be relied upon for illumination purposes, only for decorative use. BUYER BEWARE: The price is suddenly rising (now up to $14), at lease on my screen. ANOTHER UPDATE: Fixed the one that failed by ordering another nicad battery and charging it for a day before installing it. Unit not works perfectly. PRICE is increasing greatly (when shipping is factored in) as I have noticed happens a lot on Amazon with other items. I paid less than $14 including shipping for all of mine, so beware!

I purchased two of these at a local store and liked them so much I wanted more. But all local stores in the area were out, so I started searching the internet. I found plenty that only glowed three colors. (THESE glow Seven colors) When I finally found these I purchased three more.
They are now placed in my back yard raised bed gardens. They are so delightful to watch as they all compete for your attention, glowing different colors and brightness.
But aside from that, Amazon is THE place to purchase them. One from my original order arrived broken. I got online, found a form which I filled out. It had me print postage and everything! I sent the item back in the original box with no hassle. I got refunded the cost of the original and in the process ordered two more.
If there would be any regrets, it might be that I didn't order more. I want these to last forever. Maybe I will order 6 more in case any one of these ever gets broken.
Oh, and speaking of that, the 4 from Amazon are much hardier and stronger than the ones I bought from the discount store. They have larger charging cells, they screw into each other rather than just slide. They are just better built.
I am so happy every time I look into my back yard. Even in the daytime, the crackle balls are delightful to see.

We purchase two of these for our yard. LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM! They're well made, and beautiful at night!! And the stake is metal, not plastic, and tall, so you can place them among flowers without covering up the pretty 'cracked glass' globe (which, by the way, reflects the colors at night so much better than a clear glass globe does). The colors it produces are not just primary colors, but pretty in-between colors too (purple, aqua, orange, along with red, green, royal blue, yellow, and maybe another color or two?), and bright. They charge up fine through the day, and the light show they produce lasts several hours, depending on how much sunshine throughout the day to charge up the solar cell... on cloudy or rainy days, they won't charge enough for the 'show' to last long, but none of our solar lights do, so we didn't expect that. These are not only something I would buy again for ourselves, but I would definitely buy these for gifts as well. I did buy several other colored solar lights for gifts before buying these two kinds for our own yard... I like ours much better, and wish I had seen them when I ordered the others for gifts, as the other ones weren't nearly as nice as these are.Customer Review: Some Garden Fun!

This is a really fun product for those who have and enjoy whimsical items in their gardens. It works really really well and is even nicer than some of the really expensive solar color changing balls. I have 8 of these now, I know, excessive but I just love them. One night when I could not sleep I got up and looked out the window and there they all were in their color changing loveliness. We had a really thick fog that night and so they looked extremely cool. They come on at dusk and go all night until first light, just changing from one color to another. When they quit working all you have to do is replace the solar charging batteries.
What can I say, I adore them and am going to buy more.
Okay, I still love these and have 16 of them going at night. Now I see the product is up for review. I have not had problems and I still think it is a fun product. It looks so cool at night around my house, mini Las Vegas.
