I read most of the reviews before purchasing this item, and as many reported, not all of them worked. That was my experience. I purchased 5 as a gift (suspecting that all may not work) and only 3 of the 5 worked. 3 out of 5 wasn't too bad considering that my expectations were low. Then on the 2nd day only 2 worked! Today is day 3 and still only 2 work. Yes, I did all the trouble shooting, etc.
When these lights work they deserve the full 5 stars. They look absolutely beautiful in the garden, and when it's dark outside, the lighted globes appear to be floating in air... it's really quite mesmerizing. The two that work continue to glow throughout the night (the latest I checked was around 3am, and they were still glowing).
I would love to recommend these lights, but I could not do so in good faith until their performance is consistent. I'm giving 2 out of 5 stars since only 2 out of the 5 work at this time.l

If you blink you will miss the so-called 7 colors. It is no different than the three color lights. They all show slight changes when changing colors. This is misleading, I gave it a four (4) star rating because it is a well made light but the 7 colors is a long stretch of someones imagination and a marketing ploy. I have 3 color lights that look just as good. So don't expect 7 distinct colors, they are not there only in someones dreams. The price $12.98 with free Amazon Prime shipping makes these a good value. for a 3 color light. If you like insects the dragonfly, butterfly & humming bird are super. They have 2 AA batteries in each and really put on a bright colorful show. I love those and they really add a pop of bright color to my yard. I am considering adding a rope light also to set off the other lights. Most all are beautiful and make a yard interesting and beautiful after dark. There are other lower quality solar glass orbs available that only change 3 colors but THESE by Moonrays change a rainbow spectrum and have an overall superior product design. The solar panels and battery pack is centered on the METAL post so it does not look awkward in the daylight- they look like alien plants or flowers actually!
A very simple design of sturdy metal rods that screw together form the rest, topped by a real crackled glass globe that really shows off the light. I must say these should be placed in at least a set of 3 for full effect, they add a mysterious and beautiful look to your yard and remind me a bit of fireflies. I did not have any dead on arrival which is awesome as most solar lights suffer this fate- make sure you charge the batteries and switch them to ON so they can work.
A MUST HAVE- this is the best price I have found- cheaper than the stores as well!! :D

Ok, Just put these up a few hours ago and they are nice, but for some reason I feel as though they bring out the southern(redneck) side in me as I want to stare at them. I have a fairly large flower garden with many flowers, shrubs, plants,etc. These lights are displayed nicely in a setting such as this. Ths glass globes are very nice (don't break them!) Just having them in your yard without an appropriate background would make me think I am camping in a trailer park with the funny people that hang their lights outside of their camper. I paid 11.99 for each of them I purchased. Nice to have a reference point as Amazon lowers and raises their prices at will. Will update if there are any problems.
Have had them a couple of months now and all the batteries have had to be replaced. They were getting full sunlight for several hours but to no avail. Now with the new batteries they are fine.

These units have issues with the solar panels.
I had purchased three of these lights in January 2009. They worked so well I purchased three more in December 2009. One year after the second purchase, none of the three purchased in December still works, yet one of those I purchased in January, nearly two years ago still works great.
I thought it was the batteries and purchased new batteries for all of the units... waste of money. The three lights purchased one year ago still don't recharge at all... of the three purchased nearly two years ago, the one continues to work fine with the new battery, one will only remain lit for about one hour, and the last unit doesn't appear to get recharged at all.
Six units purchased, one functioning properly, one semi-functional, four non-functioning... not a good track record. :(
