I live on a small lake in an area that has many wetlands, so I have had more than enough experience with mosquitoes and attempts to persuade them to leave me alone. Since I am on the water, the EPA restricts what can be used for critter controls, and common sense says that you don't want to use products that turn your property into a chemical dumping ground. That leaves very few choices for mosquito control. Citronella candles and products are just not effective for the agressive infestations we are subjected to, and octenol-type agents are expensive although somewhat effective, depending on wind conditions. Enter Mosquito Barrier, concentrated garlic to the rescue!!!
I just spray as directed on everything. The building, into trees and shrubs (incredible sight - millions of mosquitos fleeing the spray!) the grass, under the deck, and onto standing water (not directly into the lake, however). The place smells like an Italian restaurant for a couple of hours, but then the smell goes away, at least for humans. What also goes away are mosquitos, gnats, flies, and we are left in peace. The treatment lasts for about 3 weeks, depending on rainfall, we know when to respray by the return of our whiny friends. Totally harmless to people and wildlife except for insects), easy to apply, and wildly effective. Our hefty bat population now has to go elsewhere to feed at night. I heartily recommend this solution.

I used a mosquito service last year who sprayed for me, and she made the mistake of showing me what she sprayed and how she did it...now I am doing it myself*!!! If you start early in the spring- like March for here in Texas- you can actually prevent the problem before it starts. It is much harder to control once you already have a problem.
Follow the directions on the package, also adding in the vegetable oil (to kill larvae) and I add about 15-20 drop of peppermint essential oil. It is also an insect repellent and hides the smell of the garlic, which can be strong initially.
Remember that mosquitoes lay their eggs not just in damp areas, but in soil, those deep dry cracks we sometimes get in our yard, gutters where leaves pile up, inside tight-leaved shrubs like boxwoods, etc. Try and spray very liberally around those areas and do it when it is sunny so that it can dry effectively and make sure to repeat if it rains within 48 hours of spraying. Yes, it takes a little time, but it is worth it for me to have a nice yard where our family can hang out.
Also remember that a mosquito will travel a VERY far way- like a mile- for a meal, so you are never going to eliminate every mosquito, but this product is effective if used properly.
*I use in conjunction with Dr. T's granules- one week I spray and one week I spread granules.
Customer Review: Doesn't Work For Asian Tiger Mosquitoes

I live in North Carolina and we have a huge problem with Asian Tiger Mosquitoes in the back yard. It is so bad we cannot go outside any time of day without being bitten. Putting on long pants and a jacket to do outdoor work is the only way we can avoid getting eaten alive by mosquitoes. I used Mosquito Barrier per the directions and made 3 good applications over the backyard and deck with this product over a 3 week period. Immediately after the product was applied the mosquitoes went away however, after about 1 day after each application they were back again in full force. Basically, as soon as the garlic smell was gone the mosquitoes were back again. I would not buy this again. The effort required to spray this product around is not worth it for being mosquito-free for only 1 day. This product might work for a backyard with a few mosquitoes here and there, but for Asian Tiger Mosquitoes (which bite 24-7 in sun or shade) this product is very inept. I am going to try something else. Also, the shipping is very expensive for such a small bottle. Ridiculous!Customer Review: Saving one star for mid-summer update

It has worked for us so far. The real test will come in July/August. If I can take my kids out back and not smother them in DEET every day or smack dozens of mosquitoes from their foreheads during the middle of the day, I will change the rating to 5 stars! I use the following formula: 2 gallons of water, 16 oz. mosquito barrier, 4 oz. canola oil.
We live in Washington, DC and like to eat outside during dusk. I sprayed for the first time three weeks ago and again two days ago. I saw one mosquito land, but not bite, and was reminded to spray again. I spray everything. The bushes, the grass, the fence, the sides of the house, the garbage cans, the trunks of trees, the plants growing in between the neighbor's chain link fence, and I spray the storm drains. I spray as vertically as the sprayer will reach with my feet on the ground.
The neighbors smelled the garlic as they were turning the corner to our block the evening, but the smell is gone. And so are the mosquitoes. Good luck to us all.

I ordered mosquito barrier from these people, finished the order, then realized that the shipping was about $30 and the item was only $15! I immediately sent a request to cancel the order, I was not contacted until it had already shipped and was dissmissed pretty much by a "sorry, too late" i then saw that they had shipped to the wrong address! the item was never delivered to me (because it went to my old address) by the time i got in touch with the delivery service my item had shipped back. I then got a response that they could now refund my purchase minus shipping. I requested it be shipped to the correct address which then they responded with a contact number which i didnt get through on to change my address. Today I recieved an email stating that i have a refund in the amount of $5. So in the end I paid these people $45 to give me headaches and no product. Order products through someone else or all i can say is GOOD LUCK!! and i only gave them one star because there is no option to give zero stars
