Tools and Hardware Reviews of Mosquito Barrier 2001 Liquid Spray Repellent, 1-QuartCustomer Review: Works good. Summary: 4 Stars
This product works ok. Understand that it will work differently in differing areas with less than laboratory conditions. In my area (Okla.) works well, but treatment needs to be more frequent than the directions recommend. The biggest bonus is that you can spray and not have to worry about pets and children getting into the areas before it dries as you do with other commercial sprays and pesticides. Additional benefit for us, it repels the black sugar ants. Yes they are bad in our neighborhood and it was a constant battle to keep them away from house and out of the yard. Wasnt looking for this stuff to work on ants. But this is the second year, spray yard, less mosquitos and no ants! That alone sells me. Yes its a bit expensive, but add up the cost of mosquito treatment, ant treatment and others, makes it look a lot more cost effective. (and you will be hungry for pasta and garlic bread after spraying) For $20 give it a shot.
Customer Review: Works great - non toxic - easy to use! Summary: 5 Stars
We live in Central PA, and while we really don't have any mosquitos to speak of, we do have ticks, fleas and gnats. I have two dogs, and a large organic vegetable garden, and this stuff is great! We spray our grassy areas, fence, and vegetables without worrying about toxic chemicals. If you use this product regularly and as directed, it will work like a charm! Our primary reason for trying this product was that we do not treat our dogs with harmful "spot" type insecticides. We spray our dogs down with "Dirty & Hairy" (another great product), and treat our yard religiously with Mosquito Barrier, every two weeks. No ticks, no fleas, no gnats. I do find that it is more effective with the gnat population if you use it "straight", without the addition of soap and oil. Also, invest in a backpack sprayer - they're easier to use than the smaller pump sprayers, and get the job done in half the time.
Customer Review: No help at all Summary: 1 Stars
I live in North Central Ohio. We have a large backyard ringed in woods. We have an absolutely terrible mosquito problem this year, with 20-30 swarming around you at any given time in the evening. I bought this hoping to protect the kids playset and sandbox so that we could at least use it during the day. I mixed it per their directions (using the strongest mix) and sprayed 3 gallons worth of the stuff around those two areas. There is a definite garlic oder, but it has no effect on the mosquitos at all. In fact, they were swarming all around me the whole time I was spraying it. I went back later in the evening thinking maybe it needed time to settle, but there was no difference. I don't know what type of mosquito they tested this on, but it has absolutely no effect on mine, and I feel like I got taken. For $85 a gallon, it should have had SOME effect on them.
Customer Review: BEST Earth Friendly Repellent EVER! Summary: 5 Stars
We live in South Jersey near the shore (marshes are less than 3 blocks away) and I've NEVER been one to stay outside longer than to put out the laundry on the line & bring them back in because of the mosquitoes & gnats. Not this year! My husband's an organic vegetable gardener & we refuse to use anything that's artificial near our plants. Mosquito Barrier did the trick! I can't tell you how great it is to enjoy a cocktail & dinner on our beautiful back deck without getting bitten up alive (btw-mosquitoes REALLY love my scent, which used to make it even worse for me!) We spray it everywhere, including on the veg. plants without a worry... & the veggies don't taste like garlic! My neighbor was so impressed, she's now using it. I intend to let everyone know how wonderful this product is. No chemicals. I just wish I knew about this sooner!
Customer Review: Doubling the dose seems to help against Asian Tiger Summary: 5 Stars
From the other reviews and one reviewer's comment, I concluded that the difference between the west coast success and east coast failure was the Asian Tiger mosquito. So I doubled the concentration to 6 oz. per gallon and sprayed everywhere I could. My dog usually attracts a cloud of mosquitoes whenever he is outside. After the spraying he only attracted a couple and none the next day. I see an occasional mosquito wandering through the yard, but it doesn't come after me. She seems lost. There are still mosquitoes in my driveway and in the woods behind my house where I haven't sprayed, but I plan to spray those areas next. Now that I know that Mosquito Barrier will work, I plan to use as needed, and heavily, until the season is over (first freeze). My neighbors have noticed the smell but they like it.
