Tools and Hardware Reviews of Music Power 0900-71 Duet USB Port AC Charger

Customer Review: PowerLine Response
Summary: 5 Stars

A couple of reviewers have mentioned not being able to use the musicPower Duet with Creative Zen players and Motorola Razr cellphones and made the incorrect assumption that this was some kind of a defect in the adapter. The PowerLine musicPower Duet has two "standard" USB power ports which are 5V at 500ma each. A couple of reviewers have misread the rating label on the unit and thought that the outputs were 1.5V and 2.5V. In fact, the ratings for the two outputs are:

Vout 1: 5V ... 500mA
Vout 2: 5V ... 500mA

Unfortunately, Creative and Motorola chose to use "non-standard" USB power configurations for their products and that is the reason they can only be charged using the Creative or Motorola proprietary adapters.

PowerLine provides a toll-free consumer hotline so that customers can call regarding usage, compatibility and general concerns.

Customer Review: Good for any USB device (Phone, Camera, Kindle, MP3 Player, GPS, etc)
Summary: 4 Stars

I love this device. I originally bought it for my Zune, but I've found it so much better than that as time has gone on. It seems that all my devices are charging via USB these days, but it is annoying to need a computer to do it. Fortunately, this device has come to the rescue. When I travel all I need is this; it folds up flat and tidy. In my home, I leave this in one spot.

The two ports on it are great. Charging two things at once is fantastic. My only complaint with the device is that the little LED light indicators no longer work. It isn't the end of the world, but they didn't last long, and I can't quickly see when devices are charged. For the price, it can't be beat....

Now if only all the electronics manufacturers would use a standard mini-USB connection on their devices; I'd only need one or two cables to travel with.

Customer Review: Handy for charging a Garmin Nuvi except...
Summary: 4 Stars

Seems to work fine for charging a Garmin Nuvi 750 GPS Garmin n¿vi 750 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator. The only drawback is that the GPS thinks it's attached to a computer so the touchscreen is disabled (hence you can't use it to play MP3 or program routes) when this charger is attached. Note that this is a GPS limitation and is no fault of this charger. However, for this particular application I would recommend a 12V charger instead such as the PowerLine 0900-56 12-Volt DC-AC / 1000 mA Power Socket with Enhanced Digital Power, so that the GPS will believe it's plugged into a car instead of a computer, and will therefore allow full operation of the GPS in parallel with the battery being charged.

Customer Review: LOVE IT!
Summary: 5 Stars

OK DEFINITE BUY! It's relatively cheap, VERY useful. I actually charge my digital camera and iPod together all the time....I use it for my iPod downstairs in my bedroom (no computer in my room) so I can plug it into the speakers and let it play WHILE IT CHARGES!! That's a big plus!
I'm currently in Brazil (again) and just got done charging my camera with it. It's very lightweight, the metal prongs (plug) itself folds into the white body so it's not sticking out poking things. The piece is solid, doesn't feel like some chargers I've had (like cell chargers) that if you squeeze them or push them in too tight they'll fall apart.
I've had this product several months already and definitely am 100% happy that I bought it. No need for something more expensive: GO WITH THIS ONE!

Customer Review: Incompatible with Zen
Summary: 1 Stars

This seemed like a nifty accessory: compact and energy efficient, charges two players at a time, and $10 cheaper than the bulky Creative charger with its tangly power cord and adapter. I asked the store sales assistant twice if it would work with the Creative Zen V Plus I was purchasing and she assured me it would.

It doesn't. I plugged in my Zen with its half charge from the factory, and by morning the battery was dead. I called the toll-free number on the back of the charger and was told the Duet is incompatible with Zens.

I wish I didn't have to rate the product poorly. It may be terrific. I just want people to know they should check with the manufacturer for compatibility: 800-637-2867. Their web site is unhelpful.
