Tools and Hardware Reviews of Neiko Heavy Duty Tire Gauge with Large Dial, Flex Hose, 10 - 160 PSI

Customer Review: Smells and works like dead fish
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought a high pressure gauge because my compact spare runs at 60 psi, and I don't want to risk damaging my regular gauges (60 psi max reading). Avoid this unit.

(1)Same problem as others. Strong odor. Out of the package it stinks. Left it overnight in the garage. Smelled like dead fish. Removed boot. Oily film inside. Washed it like someone else suggested. Not as strong, but still stinks. Oily film remains. I think the rubber is not cured properly, and some chemical compound is oozing out slowly, and will continue to ooze out. Not good.

(2)Same problem as others. Leaks. Stinky boot aside...Gauge does have a heavy duty hose and chuck. However, the gauge seats on the valve stem inconsistently and leaks. The bleed valve is crude and also leaks. There's too much clearance between the piston and sleeve and it binds when you push on it. The spring is junk and doesn't pop back properly. This was sold by an afiliated vendor, but fufilled by Amazon. I'm glad, because returns are painless with Amazon. Now I need to find another high pressure gauge.

Customer Review: It still stinks -- Snap-on-Tools
Summary: 1 Stars

Mike form Snap-on-Tools called me, after my last review of this product. He sent me a new one, assuring me that it would not stink of chemicals, as the previous one I had bought. (We're talking about the tire gauge, the one with the braided tubing). The new one smelled caustically too, I'm afraid to put this in my car - I can't enter my car with this thing in it, if the windows have been closed). I've kept the first one outside, in the sun for over a month now -- I can't put it in my car because of the outgassing -- and this new one stinks almost as bad now as the first one I bought. My gusess is that the new one is only about 30% less poisonous than the first one they sold me. I say poisonous, because the chemical smell smells just like that. How about a refund, Mike?

Customer Review: Good quality and accurate
Summary: 5 Stars

I finally got tired of the cheap, inaccurate pencil gages that you get at local stores. Purchased this is spite of some reviews complaining about accuracy and durability. Can't really address long term durability yet, but the gage does appear to be of good quality- looks sturdy. Also the manufacturer does warn against damaging the bourdon tube pressure assembly if the gage is dropped; it looks rugged enough to withstand regular use. I tested the pressure readout on this against a lab-grade magnehelic gage, and the pressure readings were spot on. The pressure release valve is a nice feature, and works well. Have ordered two more for my other vehicles.

Customer Review: Very pleased
Summary: 5 Stars

I had looked around and previously purchased what I felt was a very good quality gauge from an auto parts retailer...similar style, but only good to 75 lbs. Recently, I found I needed a gauge to check pressures up to 105 lbs., so I purchased this one from Amazon. I was amazed that the apparent quality of the Neiko was so much better than the first gauge I had bought. It's solid, effective, easy to use, and as far as I can tell, right on the money with the readings it provides. An excellent purchase for a very reasonable price.

Customer Review: Very nice except for the smell
Summary: 4 Stars

This pressure gauge looks to be well built and has a nice heavy duty feel in your hand thanks to steel and brass components. So far it works like a champ. But what the heck is up with the smell of cheap chinese rubber and plastics lately. Due to the overwhelming chemical smell, I cannot store this in my car; which is where I had intended to keep it when I made the purchase. The smell is so strong that I can smell it stinking up my garage. Too bad you can't check the smell of a product when shopping online.
