Tools and Hardware Reviews of Neiko Professional-Grade 40-Piece High-Strength Steel Alloy Tap & Die Hexagon Set - Metric - M3 to M12Customer Review: Good homeowner's type kit Summary: 4 Stars
I'm rather pleased with the looks of the kit. At this price point, I'm not expecting industrial quality, but it should work fine for casual use by the average home owner, like me. It's well stocked with most of the sizes I've been seeing lately, so it should work fine. The storage/carrying case isn't heavy duty either, but it's much better than the cases for many tools, especially expensive tools, that I've gotten.
My only complaints are rather minor. The case isn't marked for the various pieces, so you have to eyeball guess the size until you find the one you want. The average homeowner isn't going to have those sizes locked in his brain like a mechanic would. Secondly, the case doesn't hold the pieces, especially the taps, in place. When my kit arrived, only the very largest taps were still in their places. The vast majority were scattered throughout the box, most landing in a heap at the bottom. So, if they were sharp when they started, they certainly aren't as sharp now. There was a very thin, transparent "divider" between the 2 sections, which isn't strong enough to hold the pieces in place. I fixed the problem, by cutting the outer display carton to fit, using the thin piece as a template. The thin cardboard from the display carton is just thick enough to work, holding all of the pieces in place nicely.
In summary, this is a light duty, light use kit that should do the average homeowner very well.
