Customer Review: How to prevent the splitting

I have used this product for several years now, and love it. However, after my first set split and fell apart (per a few other poor reviews below) I realized it has a design flaw that is easily corrected. The balls are sealed shut. They have air inside them, and it expands when the dryer is hot, then contracts as the dryer load cools. This is especially exaggerated for me as my basement laundry area is quite cool. As they cool, they sort of pucker in upon themselves. After doing this many times, the product becomes fatigued along the pucker/fold lines and it does split.
The solution is VERY simple, and I cannot believe the manufacturer hasn't corrected it already: just drill a little hole in the ball! It even has a little dimple from the manufacturing process that lends itself to the hole. (Ours are only 2-3 mmm in diameter.) With the hole, the air pressure may equalize as the balls heat and cool . . . no deformation happens . . and the balls last years and years. After about 4 years, I did recently have another ball fall apart. Close examination revealed the hole had become clogged with lint to the point where the ball was effectively sealed again. Easy enough fix, I just pulled out tweezers and fixed the remaining balls. I'll be sure to examine them periodically in the future for the clogs, it only takes a second as I handle them when removing my clothes from the dryer.
I'm sometimes annoyed when products don't seem entirely thought out, and I do wish someone at Nellie's would demonstrate a knowledge of basic gas laws (PV=nRT, anyone?) . . . but this product otherwise works so well, it's worth the minor modification in the meantime.
