Customer Review: Great idea but poor implementation

Yes it is virtually impossible to read outside; you do need to disconnect it and bring it inside to program the thing. Programming it is definitely not the easiest thing in the world anyway so you don't want to be squinting trying to read it while you are figuring it all out. The commands for programming are very user unfriendly and not at all intuitive (yes, I'm a computer programmer too). You will make lots of mistakes but you can get there.
Mine has reliability issues. I can program it and it runs fine for weeks or even months. Then, for no apparent reason, it stops opening the water valve at the time it is supposed to; it keeps running but doesn't put out any water. I usually notice this as the lawn starts turning brown. I check the program and it's OK but it just doesn't open the valve. So, I take out the batteries, put them back in, reprogram it, and it's good to go again for some indeterminate amount of time.
All the bad things sad, the two hose connectors is a stroke of absolute brilliance. It is very, very handy to have that extra connector.
So, it's problematic but it's handy enough that I will play with it until something better comes along.
