Tools and Hardware Reviews of Nelson Eight Programmable Watering Cycles Electronic Water Timer with Second Convenience Outlet 56610

Customer Review: A total piece of junk!
Summary: 1 Stars

It used to be that the name Nelson pretty much guaranteed quality. No longer. I purchased this item from Walmart and then was dumb enough to throw away the receipt.
Problems:

1- The display is extremely difficult to read in the shade OR direct sunlight. Small thin alphanumeric characters. Very poor design.

2- The timer bypass valve to the hose delivered about 25% of the volume necessary for proper hose function. Very poor design!

3- Lastly, the timer programming simply didn't work! Programming is second nature to me - I built my own commercial radio station (engineering). That wasn't the problem.

Between design flaws and non-functioning, this item gets an F grade. Even if it DID work, the design is terrible.

Customer Review: HAPPY CAMPER
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the Nelson 8 Programmable water timer last summer at a Walmart. This summer I broken it and replaying it through Amazon.com. Best buy I made for a water timer. Sure hard to see the display in dreict sunlight, HEY, that the nature of LCDs. If you need you need to water at multiple times, write it down first. It makes it a whole lot easier. I use the spare outlet to wash my dirty hands, clean the dirt off the newly pick fruits & vegetable, to make plant food like Miracle-Gro,ect, ect.

Customer Review: Easy to use and extremely flexible
Summary: 5 Stars

Not sure why some think this is a hard device to program. I found it very easy and it has a mode to quickly review all my programs just to double check I have it right. This timer has been a life saver since my neighborhood went to water rationing and I can only water from 10:00PM to 6:00AM two days a week. I can set the timer to run 12:00AM to 6:00am in the morning and another cycle at 10:00PM to 12:00AM at night on both my watering days.

Customer Review: waste of money
Summary: 1 Stars

Bought this when it was on sale and thought I had a good deal. Little did i know it was a piece of junk. It worked for a month or so and then water started spraying out of the case. I've sent it back for replacement FOUR times, each one would either be DOA on arrival or work for a couple weeks and then break.

Nelson customer service is good, they replace it each time, but I had to pay postage to return it each time.

Customer Review: Bring them inside to see display when programming
Summary: 3 Stars

I agree with all that found the display totally useless outdoors. I disconnect and bring it indoors where my old eyes can see the ghostly letters in 2 point type. I have had 4 timers for two years and one leaked when the case split - out of warrenty. Not great reliability. All in all this unit is better than most because of the programs that are possible. I would buy another.
