Tools and Hardware Reviews of NewAir G73 Electric Garage Heater With Built-In ThermostatCustomer Review: As advertized Summary: 5 Stars
I'm renovating an old house...gutting would be more appropriate. It's not like the open-to-the-rafters interior is like a sauna, but it is definitely warmer than it would be in this particularly cold Long Island winter. I put a 50-ft 12 guage cord on this with a twist lock 30 amp plug so we can stretch it out to where we are working. And once I am done with the interior of the house, I will be moving the heater to the garage with a permanent connection. As to comparisons with other heaters at "the jobsite," what distinguishes the Dayton, is the fan. It's strong enough to push the heated air out over far more area than the little heaters that are designed to work with most electrical systems - 15 amp outlets...
Customer Review: Third time's the charm Summary: 3 Stars
The first unit I received had a defective connection to the thermostatic switch that caused it to fail in about 10 days. The second unit arrived with a deformed fan mounting bracket that prevented the fan blades from moving at all.
My electrician took the switch from the second unit and wired it into the first unit, creating a Frankenstein heater that is currently working well. The costs of the electrician doubled the total outlay to get a working unit. Verdict: poor quality control. The only really positive part of the experience was that the vendor, RedeemAir, was extremely responsive -- I actually had the second unit in hand within 36 hours of reporting the initial problem. Kudos to RedeemAir.
Customer Review: Well built but a little too small Summary: 4 Stars
I installed this unit to replace an open flame gas furnace in my 400 square foot, insulated workshop. The heater fan would not operate when it arrived because the blades were binding against the heater frame. This defect probably occured during shipping although the unit was packed well. I choose to remove the front grill and realign the blades myself rather than return the product. Although the heater produces a lot of heat for its size, the 17,000 BTU output is not enough to satisfy my heating needs during the colder months in Wisconsin so I will probably have to seek out another source of heating before next winter. This unit will work fine during the less severe months however.
Customer Review: Really Works Well Summary: 5 Stars
I do not typically write reviews for products, but I have to tell you that this heater is great. I live in So California and it does not get really cold here compared to most other states. However, I refinish wood doors and the surrounding temperature has to be above 65 degrees for the application of varnish to come out right. This heater heats up my 800 square foot garage to a toasty 75 degrees from a chilly 50 degrees in about an hour. Would recommended it to anyone that needs a nice electric heater.
Be careful that before you buy this unit, you have an extra 25 or 30amp circuit breaker slot in your electrical box.
Customer Review: Not much heat! Summary: 1 Stars
We purchased this heater for our garage due to the amount of 5 star reviews it had. After a quick hardwire install, we left it on for 30 minutes to see if it would make a difference. It barely blows any hot air! We could not believe it. If you put your hand about 6" from fan, the air is luke warm, much less than a hair dryer. About 12" away from the fan it feels like it is blowing COLD air! Maybe the heater coils weren't working properly on this one or something, but this wouldn't even be able to heat a bedroom. We would be better holding a hair dryer on and would get more heat from that. Very disappointed.
