Tools and Hardware Reviews of Norelco 8894 XL Spectra shaver Limited Edition, includes Automatic Charging stand with clock, 8894XLCustomer Review: My Battle With Norelco: To Get A Great Shave! Summary: 3 Stars
My name is Michael. I live near Baton, Rouge, LA. I come from a family that has used Norelco Electric Razors for years. My Grandfather and one of my Great Grandfathers shaved with a Norelco Electric Razor. My Dad 63, shaves with a Spectra 8865XL that we got him for Father's Day. He hasn't had any problems with His Razor. Here is my Norelco story. I have a heavy, thick dark beard. I usually have to shave with an electric razor twice a day to have a clean shaven apperance. I'm 42. I got my first Norelco Electric Razor in 1974, when I first started shaving. It was a Norelco double header handed down to me by my Grandfather. In 1980, I got a Norelco Tripleheader. I shaved with it through the 80s and it did a pretty good job. By the late 80s, I started shaving with shaving gel and disposable razors and sometimes alternated with a Norelco. In 1999, my X Girlfriend gave me a Norelco Micro Action 4807XL. I was really impressed with its performance. When Norelco came out with the Quadra Action, I decided to move up to oe of those razors. It shaved great, but only after about a month of shaving, it went out! I called Norelco and they sent me a Fed Ex slip to send it back and they replaced the Razor. My new Quadra Razor shaved well. When a friend of mine at work got another job, I gave Him my Quadra Razor as a going away gift. I then decided to move up to Spectra and that's where I really started having problems!!! I purchased a Top Of The Line 8894XL. After one month of shaving, it went out!!! I still had my sales slip from Target and I took it back and exchanged it for another one. Well the one, I exchanged the defected one for went out in about a week. I thought, What in the Hell is wrong with these Razors? I took it back to Target and exchanged it for a Spectra 8825XL. I thought that if I moved down the line a bit with a Razor without all the fancy gadgets then just maybe it would work! How wrong, I was! The 8825XL did not shave as well as the Spectra 8894XL and after 6 months of use it to went out. I called Norelco and the girl that I spoke with was very RUDE!!!! She said that if, I didn't have a sales slip then Norelco would not exchange the Razor. Boy was I MAD!!!!!! Whose gonna save a sales slip after 6 months? I almost cussed her out!! I demanded that I speak with her Supervisor. Well her supervisor called me and she was very nice. I explained to her my history and my family's history with Norelco. She offered to send me a Spectra 8845XL. I accepted and it shaved well for about a month. It has not gone out, but it does not shave as well as it did when I first got it. I recently purchased another Spectra 8894XL. I'm thinking that just maybe Norelco has gotten the kinks ironed out with this Razor. So far, I haven't had any problems with my new Spectra 8894XL but if I do Norelco will have to replace it. I called Norelco and registerd my new Spectra 8894XL and I expained to the guy who took my call the problems that I've had with Norelco. He denied that there had ever been any problems with Spectra Razors. What a liar!!! He knows damn well that Norelco has had problems with Spectra Razors!!!! When I asked the guy if he shaved with a Norelco, He said that he didn't. Now what in the hell is somebody answering calls for Norelco concerning Electric Razors and they don't even use one? How absurb!!! Spectra is a very good shaving Electric Razor if you can get it to work! I thought that maybe the problems that I was having with Norelco Spectra Razors was all in my head til I read all these Reviews on Amazon. Nearly half, Nearly of all the reviews on Amazon have had battery problems with The Spectra line and some punk from Norelco has the nerve to deney these problems? Give Me a break!!!!! You may ask then why do you stick with Norelco? It's tradition and I like Norelco. I like the convenience of getting a close comfortable shave, anytime, anywhere without the mess of soap and water and without the risk of getting nicks and cuts. I also like the convenience of being able to wash the Razor out with hot water under the sink. Tips on using this Razor: Do not use any pre electric with this Razor. It's best to use it with a clean dry face. The other day, I used it with some Mennen Afta Pre Electric Gel and by mid morning at work, it looked like I hadn't even shaved! Let your beard grow out a little and you will really get a close shave with this Razor! Spectra 8894XL is a fine shaving razor if like I said you get it to work for any long period of time. I recommend this Razor, but be sure to save your sales slip and definately be sure!!!!!!!!! that you register it with Norelco, so they can replace it not if, but when it goes out!!!! Any questions, email me at michael_3@bellsouth.net Thanks-Michael

More tech-chic comes in the form of a polymer LED display that tells how many minutes of shaving time remain when the shaver is operating cordless on its lithium-ion battery. The LED display also warns when the heads need cleaning (all it takes is a rinsing under running water) or replacing (replacement heads available separately). An audible alarm sounds when the shaver requires recharging on its storage stand. A six-minute quick charge is good for a single shave, and a one-hour full charge provides 100 minutes of cordless shaving. The shaver fits the hand beautifully and goes on the road stylishly in its leather travel pouch, while automatically adjusting to worldwide voltage variances. It carries a 60-day, full-satisfaction, money-back guarantee and a two-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack
