Customer Review: Happy, but after set up scare and some design flaws.

Overall, I am very happy with this lamp. The frosted glass shades are very beautiful, the base is heavy and the lamp feels sturdy and of good quality. The leaf pattern is also very nice and I think the overall effect is much nicer than the photo suggests- it is truly an incredibly nice looking lamp.
However, after we unpacked the lamp, we had difficulty fitting together the pieces for the floor stand. The lamp is very heavy and I had no idea how we could return it as unpacking it required a complete tear up of the original box and much of the packing material. It would be very hard to repack this lamp so that it is safe enough to ship back intact for a refund. Then, one of the metal pieces just would NOT twist into the previous stand piece. After a good ten minutes of worry, I applied a hammer to the screw end, evening it out slightly and thankfully the piece then went in. I was VERY happy that I was not faced with the prospect of returning this lamp after it was unpacked.
One more minus is that the reading lamp uses small size light bulbs that are not as powerful. So unfortunately, I cannot use the reading lamp alone for office work as I hoped. My previous super cheap plastic floor lamp of the same set up had an extended lamp that used regular sized bulbs, so it was very convenient in illuminating my desk and computer area. The reading light on this one, unfortunately, is not good for this purpose. The reading light would be fine for bedside reading if you do not desire high brightness. Another frustration of design is that the reading lamp does not have its own on/off switch (like my cheapo plastic one did). This is annoying because if you are sitting at your desk and want to turn on the reading light or turn the main light on and off, you have to use the high switch by the main lamp.
I rate this four stars simply because it is so pretty and seemingly very sturdy, but I would rate it a 3 or so on my happiness with its features due to the reading lamp small bulb use (hence not so much brightness from the reading lamp) and lack of a separate conveniently placed switch for the reading lamp. Oh and due to the problems we had with set up and having to resort to a hammer to make an unruly piece fit into the stand.
