I purchased this cartridge to replace the original cartridge in my Omni CBF3 undersink filter unit. The new filter assembly is 0.0125" taller than the original assembly. The new filter uses thicker gaskets on the top and bottom surfaces. The taller filter will not allow the top and bottom halves of the canister to screw together sufficiently to compress the filter unit sealing o-ring.
As a result the canister now leaks.
Several emails to Omnifilter prompted a half-hearted response from a lady named Linda. The conversation follows:
Me: Explanation of the problem...
Linda: Please remove the gasket on the cartridge and re-insert the cartridge. This should stop the leaking.
Me: If I remove the gaskets there will be no sealing surface to force the water through the filter. The water will bypass the filter.
Linda: The water will still go through the filter without the gasket.
Me: Are you indicating that, without the use of the gaskets, the filter will make a WATERTIGHT seal with the upper and lower halves of the filter housing?
Linda: Yes.
The less-than-enthusiastic response led me to keep the old, thinner washers in the unit. So far, no leaks.
P.S. If my research is correct, this filter removes particles larger than 0.5 micron, whereas Brita filter pitchers only remove particles larger than 30 micron...60 times larger. My old socks filter water better than a Brita pitcher.

Turned off cold water valve.

Opened spicket and faucet till stopped
Removed old filter, no idea how long it was there. Apartment.
Cleaned O-ring, inside of container, and top.
Oiled O-ring with Veg oil.
Here's the hard part
I had to remove the intake and out connectors to really get a hold of this thing
I can understand the perception that the new filter is too tall.
There are rubber rings at the top and bottom.
I inspected the old and it's depressed from age and pressure.
The new one is flat.
It might be harder rubber or some other reason, but, hand tighten is used generously here.
I had to put it between by feet, had the plastic wrench that you use to loosen it attached and against my shin, and grip the top.
Tested it with water, no leaking
You have to get it tight enough press the bottom rubber ring.
This is the right product, but, it's just a pain to pop in a new one because of those rubber rings being stiff.

The Omni CB3 is an under sink filter replacement cartridge. I use it as the second stage of a dual filter system, a generic carbon filter is used in stage one. My experience over several years of use with this setup has been outstanding. I rely on surface water coarse filtered through a swimming pool sand filter as my only source of water. From a cistern it is pumped to a whole house system. A bar tap faucet at the kitchen sink is connected to the under sink filters and provides all my drinking water. The CB3 provides safe drinking water for 4 to 5 months. The flow rate drops as the filter reaches capacity. The CB3 takes out volatile chemicals, lead, chlorine, sediment, and its 0.5 micron rating traps cysts from animal waste. My wife tells me daily that we have the best drinking water she has ever tasted. I agree. I highly recommend this filter for safe and tasty water.Customer Review: Water filter for dummies

I decided to some research on filters before buying my next filter. After reading an insane amount of reviews and learning more than I ever wanted too about chlorine, lead, benzene, Vocs and microbes. When all I wanted was really good tasting drinking water. I decided I would just try one of the better rated filters (not the best most expensive) but a good rating. Guess what? My water tastes the best it EVER has and I have tried many filters. If you want great tasting water at a good price you have found it. Now quit reading and try it, you won't be disappointed.Customer Review: Great with Kenmore 34451 countertop filter

Got the hard to find Kenmore 34451 from ebay and put this filter in it.. cheap setup that delivers great tasting drinking water that is on par or exceeds reverse osmosis units, the best I've ever tasted aside from water from natural springs.
