Tools and Hardware Reviews of Optimus H-5210 Infrared Quartz Radiant HeaterCustomer Review: Great product! Summary: 4 Stars
I am a college student living in Milwaukee and don't want to pay outrageous costs for heating my floor of a house. My room is pretty small (about 9x10 ft) and figured that a space heater was the best way to heat my little room without spending too much money.
Like others have said, this has no fan, and because of this it makes absolutely no noise. If it weren't for the lights of the lamps, it would be hard to remember if it were on or off.
Even at a low setting (only 400 watts) it puts off good heat. It sits on my desk about three feet away from me and I have to point it away from my face as it feels it is going to melt off.
The only downfall (which is not really a downfall, as it comes with a radiant heater) is that it needs to be pointed at you in order to heat you. Since my room is pretty small, it actually does heat my room enough to be able to live in it.
Basically, if you need this heater just for you and don't mind it being relatively close to you, it is a great heater. It will heat a small room, but don't expect it to take it from 50 degrees to 75 degrees. It will not heat a large room!
Overall, I would definitely buy it again as it is very energy efficient and fits me just perfectly!
Customer Review: Quiet, warm, and safe Summary: 5 Stars
This heater has no fan and doesn't make noise of any sort, it projects heat with a shiny concave surface behind 2 heating elements. It also doesn't have a long range, I'd say in my ~1960's Cape Cod house it probably heats about a 10 foot radius. I mainly use it right beside me in my den when I'm on the computer. I can turn down the heat in the rest of the house and stay warm where I am.
The top, bottom, and sides of this heater never seem to get warm, only the metal grate in the front gets hot.
There are two settings, 400 watt and 800 watt. The 400 watt turns on one element and 800 turns on both. Out of curiosity I tested this heater with a Kill-A-Watt wattmeter and my unit really did use 400 or 800 watts.
The dial is a bit hard to read. The dial markings are on the right end of the dial but the arrow pointing to the setting you're on is to the left side of the dial. I took a sharpie marker and highlighted the arrow (which is the same color as the body of the heater), and on the side of the dial wrote "0" on the off position, "4" on the 400 watt, and "8" on the 800 watt.
Definitely a great little heater to warm up chilly spots.
Customer Review: cheap, quiet Summary: 5 Stars
This is a good deal. Mine has worked fine for the 8 months or so I have had it. I like quartz heaters for when I am working in one place, like at the computer. They don't heat the room air very well--they only heat what they are pointed at. This one has 2 heat settings, and the low setting is 400 watts, which is lower than other brands. I keep it 3 feet away and it keeps me warm for 4-5 cents an hour. There is no fan--something almost all the others have. I like this. The unit works silently.
Two things to consider: The safety switch on the bottom is a push button that turns off the heater if it falls over. It only needs to be extended very slightly, however, to break the circuit. This means that if it is on an uneven surface the heater may not come on. I wrapped a little tape on mine to make the plunger a bit longer so it would sit on an uneven stool. Make sure if you do this you do not defeat the switch. It is there for a reason.
Also, the control wheel on the side cannot be read from in front of the heater (Design team!). I used a magic marker on the edge of the wheel: dash, double dash, and zero--for low, high and off.
OK, I am a bit anal....
Customer Review: still have not decided whether to return it or not.. Summary: 3 Stars
I am still undecisive about returning it though it is not a good heat source, all I need is a way for warmth in the bathroom at night after hours, not a primary heater for morning ruitines. It does little more than burn your leg off and not produce ambiant heat and is quite a bit for just something to give you that "welcome to your throne" feel when you get out of bed dreading the task of jettisoning cargobay's 1&2 to the cosmic rift of freezing your bum off!
*this heater will heat your pants off in one singular target area(do not put closer than three feet nor far away)
*this heater produces no(NO!) ambient heat at all(NONE!!!)
in a bathroom(like a half bath) it can be somewhat less a nuisence than no heat, as my bathrooms have no heat source at all(no ductwork routed from main centeral). I ususally turn my prime heat down to 62 degreeds(ferinheit) by midnight when I sleep. It can get pretty chilly in the pre-dawn hours. This thing produces a glow but for heat, it can only be somewhat more tollerable than none at all and will crisp your leg if you don't set it to a misfired angle to "graze" your hull.(star trek speak).
Customer Review: Optimus H-5210 quartz radiant heater review Summary: 1 Stars
It is a good thing I waited well over a month to give my review for this product... because it will be much different now. I was very happy with how the heater performed at first, especially given the low cost. Seemed well worth it, and I am sure for most future customers it will be.
However, it lasted me all of 2-3 weeks before literally dying on me OUT OF NOWHERE. I cannot stress this enough. I am very careful and meticulous person, and I am 100% positive that the heater was never dropped, exposed to water, or anything of the sort. It worked one day, and the next it simply wouldn't turn on.
I tried using almost every outlet in my house. Nothin doing. Thankfully this happened within a month's time so I could still return it. I bet some others may not have been so lucky.
Like I said, I was initially happy with the purchase. It seems I just happened to get a "bad egg" so to speak. Given all the other positive reviews, I feel like the odds are if you buy this heater you will be satisfied (for the price).... but I have to give it one star due to my own personal experience.
