Tools and Hardware Reviews of Optimus H-5210 Infrared Quartz Radiant HeaterCustomer Review: Works well Summary: 4 Stars
This heater has worked out well. It doesn't heat super quickly but most the time if I set it towards myself I'm toasty in just a couple minutes. The room obviously takes longer to heat up.
If this is your only heater, then no it won't completely heat a large room. However if you are supplementing a furnace that doesn't quite warm up your room enough, it is perfect. Of course if you put it somewhere with lots of windows or doors that are opened a lot it will be less effective.
Cons;
It is fairly narrow and would not be difficult to tip over. Even though it has a tipover off switch it could still melt or burn something.
From the front you can't see what the setting is and the dial rotates endlessly so you can't feel your way to what setting it is on. Just grab a Sharpie or labelmaker and make a label for yourself on the front of the dial.
Both a Pro and a Con is its silence. Love the quietness, but it would be quite easy to forget this heater is on when you leave.
Customer Review: Quiet and warm Summary: 4 Stars
This space heater is extremely quiet and generates quite a bit of radiant heat. The coils run continuously at a moderate temperature without the irritating buzzing or vibrating noises of other space heaters. It reaches full heat within 30 seconds.
The radiant heat is directional and will only heat-up an object that is within 3-4 feet of the heater. Don't expect this heater to warm your whole body or to heat-up a room. It doesn't work that way. I have a relatively small 8x8x10 office and it'll raise the temperature about 5 degrees over the course of 8 hours (no heat, very little AC).
This is a good personal heater for a small room or office, but keep in mind your whole body isn't heated. Put the heater on the floor and your legs will be warm, but very little heat will get to your hands or upper body.
The front grill is metal and will get very hot to the touch. Rest of the case is plastic and gets warm in some places. Would not recommend around small children or pets.
Customer Review: doesn't have a fan? WHAT!! lol Summary: 5 Stars
I'm just reading the negative reviews and laughing. If you aren't familiar with these type of heaters, please don't purchase one. For those of us, who don't want to have one of those oxygen sucking heater fans, look no further, and purchase this heater.
Of course, you must understand this heater may possibly break if it's tipped over. It has a safety device in case a pet knocks it over, so it doesn't start a fire. From what I've read this heater shouldn't break, just turn off, but the bottom line is I wouldn't hold it sideways and turn it on to test it out.
Use a lot of common sense with this heater. These types of heaters can be DANGEROUS! (I wouldn't use an extension cord either).
Overall, if you like fireplaces, you'll probably enjoy this mini version. If you're looking for a smaller 300W version, I suggest the Optimus H-4110 9-Inch Dish Heater, which I also recently purchased.
Customer Review: Small, Powerful, Efficient Light Heater. Summary: 5 Stars
This is a pretty powerful heater, if you're standing right in front of this heater you will feel the heat instantly, and it's really warm, the start-up time is about 1 minute. I've used it in a room and noticed that it raised the temperature all around in 12x14 bedroom from 40f to 60f in about 5 hours (using 400W setting) and kept that temperature steady. Of course while it's raising the temperature all around the room, you can place this heater facing you to feel the heat instantly. This heater is designed to heat individual person at a select location, but it will also heat the rest of the room with time depending on the room size and how well it's insulated. One thing they could have improved in this heater is the settings label on the rotational dial so you could read it while looking straight at the heater instead of having to look side-ways, but this can be easily fixed if you have a magic marker and some clear tape (to prevent the marker from being smudged/erased).
Customer Review: Good for small room Summary: 4 Stars
No noise since there is no fan. Warms small room.
Note that when used in night, it also acts as a night light since it will light the room.
The control dial is awkward. It has two "OFF" positions in the full circle. From one "OFF" position, no matter which direction you turn, you will get to the "800W" mode. And from the other "OFF" position, no matter which direction you turn, you will get to the "400W" mode. This design has two problems:
- If you switch between 400W and 800W from time to time, you will have to look at the dial to determine how many clicks you need to turn to get to the mode you want. And in night, you'll have to wait till it lights up to see which mode you turn it to.
- If you are at the OFF position next to 400W, and want to turn to 800W, you'll have to turn two clicks away to pass the 400W. And vise versa.
It's not a big deal but it is somehow very strange and counter-intuitive design.
