Tools and Hardware Reviews of Optimus H-5210 Infrared Quartz Radiant HeaterCustomer Review: Optimus Infrared Heater Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this heater for myself as I like to have warmth in my home while keeping my main heating thermostats down (they dry the air in a house too much). I have other small heaters I have used in the past and in the present.
This type of heat is really nice when a person
is sitting at the Breakfast Nook sipping coffee and reading the newspapers. It is comforting to put near me while I am watching TV
in the evening. It is great to put one in the bathroom before you get in the shower or bathtub, so that the air is warm and cozy while you
dry off and put lotions on when you get out.
This is a great little heater. It feels like the warmth from the sun.
I bought seven of The Optimus Quartz Infrared Heaters over the Holidays (two for myself and five as gifts). The price is quite reasonable and everyone really likes them (when you can get your pet dogs away from them - they love lying in front of them!!)
Customer Review: Toasty feeling, 400w & 800w, but gets hot easily on 800w Summary: 4 Stars
This heater provides a very toasty, direct heat. It has a safety feature that turn the heater off if it tips over. It has an additional safety feature that turn the unit off if it overheats (even without tipping over).
The heater has two settings: 400w and 800w. On 400w, only the top rod heats up. On 800w, both rods heat up. On 400w, I would prefer the option to select which rod heats up depending on where I want the heat to be focused. Also, I find that on 800w, my carpet gets really warm so I'm placing my unit on top the box in which it came. That gives it ample distance from the ground and I feel safer this way.
The overheat safety function kicks in quickly when on 800w - I would say it turn off in 30mins and then turns back on when its cooled. This is disappointing - I would prefer it be on at least an hour on 800w. On 400w, it lasts a little over 2 hours before turning off to cool.
Customer Review: Loved it-But Plug Malfunctioning Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this for my son's room. He's a baby, and therefore doesn't use blankets. I have loved it as far as heating his room, very quiet, etc... HOWEVER... My father-in-law cautioned me (as do most loving parents) about unplugging it between uses. I have started doing this the last two days, and today I noticed the plug was almost too hot to touch when unplugging it. I examined the plug, and the metal has a charred look to it, like it was melting. The plastic areas around the metal prongs is shiny and some small bubbles, like it was starting to melt. I felt like I needed to come on here and caution anyone who has it to be careful and check your plugs... and for people looking to buy this to be careful too! I had this in my infant son's room, so I am grateful I listened to my father-in-laws advice and started unplugging it, so I noticed the plug was going. Because of this major hazard, I am giving the product 1 star.
Customer Review: Best choice for open spaces (otherwise use ceramic heater) Summary: 5 Stars
The Infrared style of heater is great for really big rooms or rooms that can't be fully closed off because it heats you directly without heating the room. This is not only one of the less expensive ones, but is actually better than more expensive ones (like the one that looks like a fan because it uses a fancy dish to focus the heat). The power consumption is low enough that you may be able to use 2 on the same circuit, and on the low setting that only lights up one of the two rods, you could easily put 3 on the same circuit. Since it only heats you on one side, you will probably want to use 2 or 3 at a time, or combine it with another type of heater.
This product works well when used together with a ceramic heater in larger rooms. The ceramic heater will raise the air into the 60's, and this will let you feel like it's 75 or warmer depending on how close you get to it.
Customer Review: Best space heater for the price and efficiency. Summary: 5 Stars
One of the unique features of this space heater is that it's power settings are 400W and 800W. Most other space heaters are like 750W and 1500W, so this is about 50% less power. With the heating bills these days, saving power adds up in saved $. Even though it uses half the power, this thing really does heat up my room. It's not a great heat up your whole house type of thing since heat rises and will leave the area, but in confined areas like my office, or my bathroom/bedroom, it works like a charm.
Even in the living room, if I put it near me it'll keep me warm, but it won't heat up the whole room since all the heat leaves and floats up stairs. I only have to turn it on for like 15-20min in my office, and it gets REALLY warm in here that I just turn it off and it stays warm for hours.
I highly recommend getting one of these or more! ( I own 2 )
